Straßenkatze [She/They]

🟨⬜️🟪⬛️ Freut mich. Ich bin eine Straßenkatze — nonbinär und aro-ace. 🟧🟨⬜️🟦🟦

I was born before Y2K wiped us all out. I am a Manga-lover, a talker, and here for good vibes and to hopefully both learn and help others.

  • Uniform Policy: Enforced and changed specifically to target people. I remember when my old workplace had a uniform ordering sheet, people ordered a particular uniform from said sheet, then when I tried, it was an issue and I was told “that is not an allowable uniform here.” Funny that.

Also, please be careful. We have had the conversation before briefly about VRChat, I want you to be safe. As long as you are just there to vibe with media though, you should be alright. Remember the block button and use it liberally.

  • Absolutely. There is nothing wrong with a story that respects its characters but exposes what happens to said characters and crafting a story around it, even if it goes into very dark places. No topic is off-limits to cover in my point of view, but it must be done with tact. When the advertising material for the Manga calls its disabled character useless? That is not tact.

If they have any self-respect and any care at all, they would cancel the adaptation, and the author would do something better, not continue to allow the festering of a tasteless read. But they are unlikely to do any of that.

I remember when people had an outcry to such a degree that a disabled character was censored a decade ago, Derpy Hooves. Her crime?..existing, with crossed-eyes, and while trying to help, failing at it. Sure, the other character was abrasive, but Rainbow Dash was normally abrasive. And despite it all, she never told Derpy to get lost or not be there, the worst she did was ask Derpy to “just sit there and do nothing.” The character was not the problem, the dialogue could have been nicer, but they outright removed her existence as a disabled pony while dollying the dialogue, which many took umbrage with as many identified with and loved Derpy as a well-intentioned but clumsy pony. Eventually they did do her justice by bringing her back properly, and fanworks treated her with the love and respect deserved, but still.

That side-tangent is to say, my how things have changed. If this stunt would have been pulled a decade ago they would have been blackballed from the industry.

  • Went on my own rabbit hole since I cannot easily click links from this frontend and preferred looking into it properly. What a rabbit hole it is. The Manga is being translated into English as well, and it is far darker than what it portrays itself as on its descriptions.

But aside from that, there is criticism, right or wrong I cannot say for sure, that Mii-Chan is functionally written as a derogative, being a stereotypical, insensitive portrayel of autistic persons.

    Spoilers and CW

Couple this fact with the overarching sex industry setting/allusions and the author’s past works(contradicted by them and themself) in the sex industry, alongside Mii-chan being based on someone the author knows, the fact Mii-Chan is murdered ultimately, and that the anime adaptation was announced the day of the anniversary of a specific tragic stabbing incident that specifically involved the murders of disabled persons, and yeah, this IP is tainted.

Ultimately, I am far from someone who believes in the suppression of media. “First they came for the communists,” and such-wise. But nonetheless, despite the claims to the contrary, there are too many things that line up for me to believe this to be anything less than outright tasteless, and a tainted IP. At worst it is intentionally meant to spur on further hatred and trouble, but I do not claim to know the intent of the people behind it(who deny that they are trying to do such).

  • I wonder where would be placed the one where a system has the functionality built-in to allow for representation, but Institution X deliberately disables it in their system. Certainly not Good, borderline Unlawful and very much not Neutral.

I know I am over-seriousying a meme, but it made me curious.

Also, yes, I would like to select the gender “Venezuela,” please. No I will not elaborate Institution Y, you put the option there so of course I am going to pick it.
