  • If it wasn’t for Goldblum I probably wouldn’t have given it a chance but I’m glad I did.

If you have a limited knowledge of Greek mythology you’ll go ‘wait how was this in the myths’ and look it up and kinda be surprised how true they stay.

If you know all about Greek mythology you’ll have a laugh at how they mangle certain things and put things together that are not supposed to be together.

  • I’ve played it. It’s kind of fun but it feels empty somehow. The offline game modes are over quickly, the idea is you control the entire team (even though there’s only one Beater).

Multiplayer is kind of fun, it’s 3v3 meaning you control a Chaser and one other role. The Snitch appears 3 times a match, at which point the one that controls the Seeker can switch.

The controls are okay, although the default control scheme makes no sense whatsoever. You can change it to a better preset and fine tune some stuff. Not everything is intuitive.

After a couple of sessions you’ll be done. You can level up, get different brooms for certain roles. Upgrade the brooms. Spend skill points on roles.

There is no MMR at the moment, multiplayer only works if you are indifferent of your secondary role and your game might get cancelled because too many folks leave.

It has great potential but they need to give the controls a bit more finesse, add a 6v6 game mode (already on the roadmap). They might learn a bit from Rocket League.

The commentary gets kind of annoying, it’s not very extensive but you do need it to be alerted of stuff happening on the pitch.

Essentially they focused on Quaffle mechanics and so the Chasers are the roles that were developed most. It feels like the Keeper was an afterthought, the controls are wonky making it more advantageous not to switch to the Keeper. Because of that, they gave the Keeper the extra skill to ‘call a play’ meaning you can spawn rings on the field to give Chasers a boost when flying through it. This boost is not at all necessary to score, though.

  • I think I need to read up on the fediverse a bit more. Technically it looks like anything in the fediverse at the moment is ActivityPub, even though it supports 3 more protocols. At this point, only Hubzilla uses something other than ActivityPub, even though it also makes use of AP. I was confused because Matrix is also an open protocol and also federated. I had figured everything federated could talk to each other underneath… That’d be the dream, right?

  • My stationary bike has a display that tracks loads of stuff but there’s also a phone/tablet holder if you prefer an app. You can use anything you want but you just gotta commit to a certain run plan.

As for me, I do about 10 minutes at low resistance, high pace. My dash shows me a virtual speed indication. I do the first 10 minutes around 25 kph.

Then I slowly move through the gears and try to keep the pace flat. After 25 minutes I do a short intermission where I get the lowest gear and paddle loose the legs.

Then the buildup again and trying to keep the pace above the previous pace.

Essentially it’s all about what you want to gain.

For strength, you’ll do better with explosive bouts (after proper warmup or you’ll tear off your leg muscles). For endurance, it’s all about keeping up a pace in intervals. The higher the pace you can consistently keep during a set time period (for instance an hour), the better, but it’s important to find your base level first by taking it easy. Consistency is key above all else.

Keep in mind that if endurance is your goal, you should never think ‘oh this is going pretty easy, I can take it up a notch’ because you might not last the full hour without over exerting yourself which will lead to sore muscles. The other way around is also true, though: don’t give up if it gets tough. But there’s a difference between stretching your comfort zone and going outside the lines.
