I appreciate someone still remembering that, fellow ancient person.

Thank you for being the kind of parent the world should have more of. Kids are dumb but curious by nature, and need a guiding hand to direct them away from misinformation, propaganda, and other toxic things they have no way to discern from truth before they have the experience to tell them apart.

This is at least in large part how the locking down of smartphones began. People either weren’t around yet or don’t remember how much of a wild west smartphones were for malware, scams, etc. when they first reached mass market uptake. There was a while there where companies were blocking smartphones from their networks because of the security risks.
It took Apple and their closely integrated/walled garden approach and insistence to sway the perception. And that’s what other manufacturers then decided to emulate.

Yeah, what game even is this? Serious out of the loop sensation here.

Considering the folks they’re most likely to encounter high up north, I think it’s safe to say they’d be hunting the wrong folks if the intent is to have them predate the 0.1% who are largely responsible for the current climate disaster. Unless we start airdropping the CEOs of the top polluting companies up north, in which case I am all for it.

I hate how you are probably right. At least regarding the timing of the whole situation.

And Greenland for that matter. Hopefully they learned from jacking off over their history books to equip their troops with winter gear this time, or they’ll learn the exact same lessons Napoleon and Adolf did.

Can the US not start armed conflicts everywhere at once? I mean, I know their military is big and well-funded, but at some point you’ll hit an untenable number of simultaneous fronts. Ask you history teacher how to ended up working out for the Germans. Twice.

Yeah, that was some baffling leadership.

It’s almost like the ousted CEO of Stellantis was onto something with his “Dare Forward” plan. But apparently having long-term vision is punished by the market, so now they’re bringing back gas guzzling V8s and fucking small-car diesel engine options (despite them being banned in more and more inner cities in Europe).

We can go even shorter “Trump kills children to distract from raping them”.

Gee, it’s almost like power vacuums tend to be detrimental to the stability of a country.

Oh, I am not saying they’re not still opportunistic money-chasers. Hence the comment about there not being any good AI companies. To me though, their reluctance on some topics and honest admissions on the capabilities of their AI make it appear that they less happy to throw all principals overboard in the race to win the AI market than the likes of Google, Microsoft, and Musk.

Still. I will happily take a company with some moral fiber over one with none when it comes to this AI race to the bottom.
Not saying Anthropic are the good guys here (there are none IMHO) but they are clearly trying to be the “less bad guys”.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody who has paid even a modicum of attention to the ongoing escalating authoritarian power grab in the US.
Nothing is as permanent as a temporary fix.
Huh. TIL I guess. That study cites a bunch of credible sources at least, but I haven’t had a chance to dig into the findings in detail yet.
That said, even per the cited paper, the difference between your kids growing up dumb or smart is primarily environmental. So, that supports my original point: Given proper education there’s a good chance these kids will grow up to surpass their parents.

The folks in charge really needs to stop trying to implement the torment nexus don’t they? Hello Skynet!
Intelligence is not a transferable trait, unlike physical traits. There’s no guarantee that these kids won’t educate themselves and surpass their parents in intellectual capabilities. All we need is indeed better public education.
That headline is a sentence so white trash I grew a mullet just reading it.
