Technology@lemmy.world•Peter Thiel and other tech billionaires are publicly shielding their children from the products that made them richEnglish
1·8 days agothat’s what private cities and walled off estates are for
I would just like to add that there is a school (I think in California) that the rich sends their kids to, where electronic devices are prohibited (and access restricted I believe). Though from the video, it does look lie the interact with others outside of that circle.
Here’s the video: YouTube Link
I do this as well. it is truly more comfortable.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•It's 50 F (10C) and I have the windows open. It's a beautiful day.English
2·14 days agorn, it’s 20 out, and it’s pure bliss 😁. I especially love the slow breeze that sometimes blows. It’s a lovely break from the summers where I live, where it’s usually 30 degrees
I love the greenhouse vibe with all the lanterns in the first image. Looks super cozy!

Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•Last night, I suggested switching to Signal in my family group textEnglish
3·28 days agoMy parents are pretty much the same. Trying to get my dad to trust and/or use KMyMoney (or GNUCash for that matter) is like an uphill battle.

Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•Last night, I suggested switching to Signal in my family group textEnglish
17·28 days agoMy family used to use Signal after the whole WhatsApp fiasco a few years ago. Everything was going fine until we switched back because of a family emergency. I suggested switching back several times after that, but to no avail :(

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What skills did almost everybody have 50 years ago, but few people have today?English
2·1 month agoAhhh. The cars I’ve been in (the most) are pre-2015 (2007 and 2014). Thanks!

7·1 month agoI have a few friends who know how to sew, and they all say it’s an essential skill, and they did actu use that skill. I am also thinking of picking it up…
For context, me (and my friends) are all under 20

4·1 month agoThey no longer put […] cigarette lighters in vehicles
I thought they still did? Just isn’t referred as “Cigarette lighter” anymore?
This might be me being kind of pedantic, but this might actually be adwaita instead of LO. I’ve noticed on RNote (a GTK app that uses adwaita), that the save icon is as you described, whereas on KDE’s breeze and oxygen icon themes (and I’m sure many others), the save icon is still a floppy.

Linux Furs@pawb.social•KDE Going all-in on a Wayland futureEnglish
1·1 month agoIn my experience (Wayland + KDE), the windows shade feature is a bit iffy. It only works for some programs (maybe they arre the ones that use XWayland?? I don’t know.).
I found that deskflow is a great replacement for wayland systems. I think it can even talk to barrier!

Off My Chest@lemmy.world•When I'm not talking to my therapist, I vent to ChatGPTEnglish
2·1 month agoI am using an application called “Jan AI” for this exact thing. it runs completely locally, and you can make your own assistants. I have a converation therapy assistant that I made with the help of the main ai, and it helps.
The app only works on desktop for local though

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What's a good entry level printer these days?English
88·1 month agoI’d also recommend the A series (I got recommended the A1 from a friend when I was starting out), and it’s been pretty great so far. As for the slicers, I know you can use OrcaSlicer with Bambu printers (as well as with a ton of others too)

2·1 month agono problem!
P.S. You don’t need a WiFi card to use KDE Connect. I have it set up on my desktop (Ethernet only), and it works perfectly. I think you do have to make sure that it connects through the same router that the wired connection uses.

Linux@lemmy.world•Those who've switched to Linux in the last year, how is it going?English
1·1 month agoOn a sidenote to that, if you install
kde-config-flatpak, it enables a permissions management page in system settings, similar to flatseal I believe. I haven’t been able to try it out myself, so I don’t know how well it works.

2·1 month agoFor the icloud sync, you could try rclone
Here is a tutorial to help you get started: https://rclone.org/iclouddrive/

I tried this with a local model on my phone (qwen 2.5 was the only thing that would run, and it gave me this confusing output (not really a definite answer…):

it just flip flopped a lot.
E: also, looking at the response now, the numbers for the car part doesn’t make any sense
