I don’t understand how these tech people can be so bad with researching things and then installing a distro.

1·19 days agoAre you pretty much able to do everything you need? I don’t even love using my phone but when I use it its kind of critical. Things like maps while driving. Does that work alright?

1·19 days agoCool. Currently I try to use Mobile Pay for everything, but the privacy is more important for me. I’m on IOS right but I’m tired of Apple and hate Google’s privacy policies. So I’ll def get a refurbished Pixel and try out Graphene. Thanks!

2·21 days agoIt’s not that there are games on them. It’s that they can find games online to play.

21·22 days agoTeacher here: In my classroom I’m purposely moving towards pen and paper. Each middle schooler has a Chromebook and it has wrecked their brains (along with social media and phones that they are on outside of school.) You leave them to do an assignment and they will be on a game in 10 seconds unless you keep on them. Tech needs to be used, but right now it is killing any curiosity and stamina for learning that they have left.
X1 Carbon Gen 12 running Debian. Edit: I love Debian but I went back to Arch. Using Debian on my server.
Mailbox is pretty good. The UI is a bit clunky, but so far I like it.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.ml•is there any reason to try CachyOS over EndeavourOS or are they pretty much the same?English
21·2 months agoIt really comes down to how much you want already set up. Archinstall = base system with DE / Endeavour = base system with helpful scripts / Cachyos = Full System
All of them work. How much work you want to put in and how close you want to stay to Vanilla.

1·2 months agoWere the codecs annoying in Kinoite? I always got thrown off because Aurora came with “batteries included” so I figured Kinoite would be a pain, but maybe its not.

2·2 months agoI also wanted to try Aeon. I always had issues installing Tumbleweed though. But it looks super nice.
I want to try distrobox as well. Never used it before but I was just reading about it and thinking if I can benefit from it.
For some reason rpmostree always confused, but I’m the type of person to overthink things. Just using flatpak seemed easier, but I know you can pretty much just do that in Silverblue.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why go through the trouble to use Arch?English
1·4 months agoWith Archinstall its really easy. You still need to be familiar with the Wiki, but its not hard. Tedious maybe. And running all vanilla software is nice. No distro modification.

1·1 year agoYeah, I feel like 9/10 vanilla is best. If the developers of the DE are good it should work clean out of the box.

Yea. I guess I always assume people are genuine, but it is a group who care about entertaining more than teaching.
