Adding icons, even if they are not perfect? Hell yeah! I find it difficult scanning through text, it all seems the same. Even just crappy icons will improve my orientation because every menu becomes a recognizable map. Now if we added colors, that would make it perfect…

21·11 days agoThis. I was putting a lot of hope into the PinePhone, but the effort required to 1) make it at least barely usable and then 2) keep it that way across updates is just too huge.
And believe me, I tried back then. Even as a software developer, I couldn’t live with it, making all the possible sacrifices. After more than a year of struggles I just got a Pixel 7 and couldn’t be happier to this day.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Maybe the RAM shortage will make software less bloated?
2·18 days agoExactly. Unless the CEO’s machine struggles with the app (or the top tier customer keeps nagging), optimizing anything gets pushed down the backlog. Sure, let’s create a followup ticket. And then cancel it in a year or two. If it runs, it runs. Good enough.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you successfully maintain a calorie deficit over the long run?
1·18 days agoThis works well for me. The hardest part comes from social interactions, not from hunger. Cooking for a family and not eating, that sucks.
Not what the post is about, but finding my MX5 on a parking lot is getting increasingly difficult, yes.

3·27 days agoThey lose some of their sound, literally. This is very audible with the mandolin, it gets quite muted as the strings age. What a difference when you change them.

I love the design and idea behind these things, I just wish I had a good excuse to use one.
Can’t imagine the rash you’d get from this.
I for one still find it amusing how it can get stuck on different things every now and then. Even after all these years. Especially when it chews on my wife’s stuff and I can make fun of it.
Time to get a wig, I guess…

37·1 year ago+1 for avoiding dynamically constructed identifiers when possible. Fulltext search across multiple files is available in most tools, let it be useful. It sucks having to search for a substring, hoping you guessed the way it gets constructed. Plus, it might not even occur to you that this is what you need to try.

Building when you could be buying a solution for a supporting project like this? I wish you good luck finding a better employer.
