ok. I really like this place. but what IS the deal with “rule”. I kinda need to know.
that was my thought process as well. someone lives in a very dark place.
I grew up pretty poor. I got most tech when it went on sale or was discontinued. so, I got my Atari when I was 11, in 1985. when I went to college in 1991, I played a friend’s Sega and became obsessed with Sonic! by 1993, I was surrounded by computer nerds and had access to most consoles and just fell into PC gaming instead. Sam and Max. Day of the tentacle. Lemmings. Monkey Island. It wasn’t until I realized I could play all the sonic games on GameCube that I even wanted a console.
nowadays, I live in a household with all the consoles, but they’re not “mine” and I barely touch my PC.
it was my first (after my Atari 2600) , and honestly favorite, console. I still have the games but I no longer have the console.
for YEARS I refused to use the site which should not be named because I hated the UI. RIF is literally the only reason I explored outside the group I joined for.
for me, it was community I was seeking, and honestly not finding on Reddit. this, for me, may be what I wanted Reddit to be all along. taking that into consideration makes this less a replacement and more of what was missing. what I did love about Reddit was answers. content. we will get to watch that blossom. it’s kinda exciting. also, I got my old username for the first time in 2 decades.
why do you doubt it? there are thousands of new people flooding in daily. set up the mags and post for engagement? sounds like a lot of work but I understand what you’re missing, my communities are not here either, but I’m going to do my best to make a space for them.
when I used imgur, before I was active on Reddit, I loved getting upvotes. but on Reddit, it seemed like a bit more of a slog and it wasn’t immediately visible, so pretty unimportant to me.
I tried signing up on various instances of lemmy for 2 weeks prior to the shut down. it failed over and over, kbin was recommended if I didn’t have any particular reason for choosing lemmy instead. I’m grateful. I hope we don’t kill Ernest though.
I only communicate with two people in signal. I still use it because I genuinely despise Android messenger.
