Yeah, I’m a bit worried.
Agreed! Me too :)
Happy cake day! It’s great to have you here 😊
And Pomona++; one of my favourite scents in wetshaving. I’m also worried about the seeming lack of activity from SW, especially since Dogwood Handcrafts is effectively shut down, too, and for months already. 😢
Such a good safety razor. The three Micromatic models (or 6, depending on whether you count generations) really stand out as particularly great designs IMO.
Happy TabOKtoberfest Eve, friends. Tomorrow starts the road to Stanksgiving, and I’m looking forward to switching from Straightember, with one straight razor and brush while varying the software every day, to TabOKtober (Tabac-Offene-Klinge-October), with Glorious Old Man Stank® every day while varying the open blade razor.
This shave marks use 60 of the SOC and use 30 of this Frio edge. These SOCs are really nice once broken in, but they do require a bit of patience to get them there, at least when compared to Zenith boars, my base line for boar brushes.
The Friodur 17 gave be a month of lovely shaves. This grand-daddy of modern stainless steel is just so nice to work with: these blades hone up very easily on synthetic stones (according to @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social and @whosgotthepudding@sub.wetshaving.social, they also work well with natural stones, but I have no first-hand experience of it), they hold their edge very long, and the fact that they are made from stainless steel makes them just so much more convenient in the day-to-day because you don’t have to be paranoid about residual moisture in the pin or scales like with classic carbon steel straights. The form factor of the 17 is also very pleasant. A bit smaller – both narrower and shorter, it still ends up being 1 g heavier than the venerable 14 due to the thicker grind. I’m definitely glad I kept my eyes open until a NOS 17 showed up on eBay at a reasonable price.
This lovely Firefighter shave is the last use of the 17 for a while, and I’m looking forward to giving my other open blade razors a whirl this month.

In honour of the Spearhead anniversary, I’m shaving with elusive Fleur de France today.
Spearhead’s lineup of fragrances has consistently been fantastic, and the 20.1 base is my favourite.
Fleur de France has a non-green fougère vibe for me, and I usually like to combine it with bright green scents, but it’s a great trickhole scent too! It’s really a pity it’s been discontinued, and I’m hoping to maybe snag a tub during the anniversary sale surprises.
Sorry dear @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social for hijacking
All good! This turned into a thoughtful discussion, I’m all for it 🙂
Thanks! Playing with a lightbox I finally bought.
I strop freshly honed edges on canvas with chromium oxide, so they are super smooth from the get go.
No, this one’s lavender, patchouli, and a bit of orange
I woke up to over 30 Moarteen signups already and I’m elated. Leaning into lavender and patchouli (and citrus) with this happy early weekend morning shave.
The Frio edge lost it’s magic smoothness around use 24, but it’s still solidly comfortable at 28 uses. Really great steel, this.
Mechanically it’s not nearly as interesting as the MMOC, but it’s still sort of cool in that department.
Well put
The way I see it you have two options:
There is no rule that the community and Reddit have to be a package deal
That sucks. RIP sledgehammer
Fern and Varen have a similar heavy, stanky vibe, while Skin Bracer tries to keep it fresh and clean. A fun combo.
The edge is still comfortable after 27 shaves. You just have to love that Friodur steel.

Wonderful shave this morning. After 60 days of using a SOC boar brush, this gigantic, luxurious, and warm badger fan was a more than welcome change. It’s on the floppy side and I will probably pull it out and drill a deeper hole in this handle at some point, but if I account for it, I still get wonderful lathers with it.
The beautiful Böker with the dangerous point was wonderfully smooth, and I’m always impressed by the ergonomics of Böker shanks with their best-in-class jimping. This Abalone, my vintage S.S. Paris Wins, and u/Visceralwatch’s King Cutter (which I need to send off ASAP) all have this, and I really appreciate it.
I wish you all a great day, and happy TabOKtoberfest to those who celebrate!
