The insurance you’re required by law to carry is liability imsurance that ensures you don’t ruin someone’s entire life with no ability to compensate them. If you own your car free and clear, its completely on you whether you want to insure your own property.

75k is a pittance compared to the damage you could do to another person’s property or life while driving. That’s the whole point of the legally mandated liability insurance–for most people getting in an accident that results in injury to the other party would be financially devastating. And even worse would be having someone hit you and put you through 250k of medical care with no ability to pay.
Thousands of people are injured every day in car accidents in the US and about 100 are killed, so its not some kind of unicorn situation.
If you want to argue about driving being a necessity to live and work, that’s a completely separate discussion from why liability insurance is necessary.

101·16 days agoI know what blue maga means. That’s why I asked you to explain why the hell you’re so eager to lump anyone who ultimately makes a pragmatic choice in the general election, after all other choices have been exhausted, in with the crowd that has spent months/years actively pushing to ensure the worst possible option is running against a fascist.
The wildest part is we dont even disagree, so save your fucking smugness.

423·17 days agoThe fuck kind of false equivalence is that?
Holding your nose and voting for the non-MAGA option in the general election is not at all the same as throwing a social media temper tantrum on behalf of your “team”, no matter how condescendingly you phrase it.

You probably could have stopped there, honestly.
The human body is complex enough that it would honestly be staggering if everyone’s body digested, metabolized, stored excess caloric content, and used that stored energy in the exact same way.

Each one will have the same story, but still get stretched to 4 hours.

4·22 days agoIt took me awhile to figure out the correct setup to get Sonarr, qbittorrent, and Jellyfin all to play nicely together, but once you get it figured out, it transparently addresses the problems of folder structure and allowing you to keep seeding content.
I had the same issue as you, initially, where I had to do a ton of library maintenance in Jellyfin. But since using Sonarr to monitor and import media from torrents to a structured media library, Jellyfin has been pretty hands-off
I don’t know how relevant this is, but in English, the word “cloven” commonly refers to the hooves of large mammals that are split into “toes” for lack of a better word. For example, pigs have cloven hooves, but horses do not.
So it’s a little amusing to me that the English and German ways of referring to a piece of garlic are different…but not really!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unscientific opinion that you firmly hold?
151·24 days agoCold air tends to be very dry, which can most definitely irritate your nose and throat (among other body parts). That irritation and drying out can make the thin skin and mucous membranes more vulnerable to attack from bacteria and viruses.
The only really unscientific part of your post is that the cold air itself is not the direct cause of illness.
People with a strong immune system might not see a big difference, but if you are already more susceptible to getting sick, then the link to cold air may be more obvious to you.
I wasn’t even thinking about thunderstorms, but you’re right, I would totally miss them! My dogs hate them, but I love a good rumbly light show on a hot summer night, and the cool air that (usually) follows.
Nah bro we both just have uncommonly good taste in snacks and weather. 🤜🤛

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats a band/artist who's music all sounds the same?
1·27 days agoHaving been surprised to see Tool twice in this thread, I think you hit the nail on the head.
Between Maynard’s voice, and the basslines OP mentioned, they definitely have a distinctive sound, and I could see how it could blur together as background / casual listening music. Especially if you listen to mostly mixes ot playlists.
Personally, I almost exclusively listen to music by album, and I think thats where Tool’s songs really become more distinct from each other.
Maybe controversial, but despite the rye chips being far and away my favorite part of Gardettos, I actually prefer the mix because then the rye chips are that much tastier when you hit one.
Or maybe its the same kind of illness/cope that causes me to say things like “I actually enjoy living in the midwest, where we get to experience all 4 seasons, versus someplace that’s pleasant and warm all year”
Came here to say the same thing. I zoomed in to figure it out, saw the faint skull in the upper left and hoped out.
That is 100% a cursed image. Lures you in with grilled cheese from your sweet Nana, makes you look closer to figure out the perspective, then throws a bunch of creepy shit your way when your guard is down. There is probably some weird writing in the bread texture, or pentagrams in the yellow decoration or shit like that, but I’m not brave enough to keep looking.
It doesn’t even need to be that fancy. Basic ones will just react to reduced flow on the hot or cold side by reducing the other side proportionally to keep the temperature roughly the same.

Not sure I agree about Skylar being meant to be liked.
Despite being an anti-hero, Walter was the protagonist, and the show was presented in such a way that you’re generally rooting for him, even if you don’t really like Walter as a person.
On the other hand, Skylar is pretty much doing the sane and rational thing of trying to make the best of an impossible situation (as you noted), but she’s still impeding or opposing the protagonist for much of the story. Since the story is being told from Walt’s POV, it’s hard to truly like Skylar as a character to the point where you are rooting for her. And that contradiction is part of what made the show interesting IMO.
100% agree though, if you actively dislike Skylar or think she was the worst part of the show, you’ve missed the entire point.
