  • I just feel that things and places are tainted by horrific events that are associated with them, even if there’s a much more vanilla history.

As an example, the park at Bondi Beach in Australia where there was recently a terrorist massacre. It will always be the place where that happened, not the place where 10s of thousands of picnics were had.

Yes you can say that Kirk’s tent is a celebration of his life and his passion, but lots of people will find that to be in poor taste.

Everything about these people is creepy and weird. Before this guy died, I didn’t know who he was, but if I had I would have thought that making a living going to universities and manipulating people into signing up to this ideology was creepy and weird. His wife weirds me out too.

    It’s ok buddy.

I defended mozilla for the longest time. Trying to see the underlying motive for every dumb decision, challenging others to at least acknowledge their strategy.

This latest brain fart from the new CEO is the end of that though.

It’s fine to keep defending them, but it would also be fine to acknowledge that mozilla is actively alienating Firefox’ loyal following.

  • This is me.

    For example, /srv/docker/synching contains:

    compose.yml .env ./Sync

That last one is a directory bound to the container which contains all my sync folders.

Occasionally it makes more sense to put the mounted folder in /srv like /srv/photos is mounted by /srv/docker/photoprism/compose.yml

However, thats a rarity. Things mostly accessed by a single compose stack are kept alongside the other files for that stack.

There’s a lot of young people on lemmy and I imagine lots of people with unfulfilling jobs.

Im self employed. My job is tough, and stressful. I wouldn’t do it for free, but I choose to do this job because i have the right skills and experience, and I genuinely enjoy “helping” people with my services.

  • One failure in the 1996 National Firearms Agreement was that it allowed membership of a target shooting gun club to be a valid reason for obtaining a gun licence. This was a serious mistake. Gun clubs were immediately flooded with applications for new members, and the membership fees have helped to support shooters’ parties in state parliaments and to fund gun lobby groups who have a vested interest in weakening gun laws and promoting the sales of more guns and ammunition.

I dont really think this is a fair assessment.

Yes its a concession that allowed some people to have some weapons, but in exchange they had to be connected to a club.

Its easy to forget that at the time, while these laws had a lot of support, there was still a very strong opposition. A significant portion of the population felt the way Americans would - that their rights were being taken away and that it was authoritarian over reach.

Maybe things have changed now, and maybe its time to dial up regulation of gun clubs, but in 1996 the govt of the time did what they could with that legislation.
