Why?
I mean, $3 is probably cancelled out by server costs for the 12 hours I’ve played. It’s not a particularly good game, but it’s enjoyable enough for when I just want to shut off and drive/fly/boat around for a while.

Ah yes, the old “other people are siding with someone I disagree with so clearly they’re biased and I shouldn’t consider their words at all”!

In theory, it’s just an algorithm that will always produce the same output given the exact same inputs. In practice it’s nearly impossible to have fully deterministic outputs because of the limited precision and repeatability we get with floating point numbers on GPUs.

I’ll admit I don’t spend enough time on here to have a well-formed opinion, but aside from the occasional obvious spam post, I don’t see a lot of obvious bot activity… Depending on the instance/community, you’re going to get a lot of very strong and, uh… controversial opinions.
Keep in mind that the (still relatively) niche nature of Lemmy/Piefed (and the fediverse writ large) means that a higher proportion of people around here are going to be far from the center of the political gradient… and the western world is very much experiencing a cultural/political paradigm shift which is driving people to the fringes.
I also think that a lot more people are using the platform than a year or two ago and that has knock-on effects on moderation that we still need to figure out how to deal with.

Seeing the Democratic establishment react (or not react) to Trump so far this year has made me feel like this sort of disruptive spiral into fascism was going to happen no matter what. It just would’ve been some other likely Republican positioned as a populist strongman.
imo when someone is so lazy that they can’t be arsed to put effort into using genAI properly to produce an image that isn’t the most generic slop imaginable, they’re probably also too lazy to have developed the empathy required to come to actually valid conclusions

I mean, Cyberpunk 2077 does have construction workers being contractually obligated to receive strength-augmenting implants that are low quality and frequently malfunction and/or drive the wearer to homicidal insanity.
I can relate to… every single one of those points. I’ve spent some time living in small spaces though, so I’m not so bad about my room being messy anymore. Everything else though? Yeah. I spent many years in therapy as a teenager and nobody even brought up the possibility of neurodivergence. I eventually looked into it enough to get formal diagnoses of both Autism and (mild) ADHD when I was 27. They’ve been a recurring theme but not by any means a focus of sessions with my therapist since then (I started therapy again around that time too).
Treatment isn’t going to do anything if you feel like your quality of life is good, as you’ve basically managed to do the treatment yourself. That said, I think that therapy is generally a good thing, even for people who manage to cope well; as it can aid in deeper understanding of the self. It’s shocking how many people think they’re happy but really aren’t.
Connecting with others is hard. Even for neurotypical people, from what I can tell. All I can really suggest is trying to meet other people who are on the spectrum. You’ll likely find other autistic people are much easier to connect with. I have my partner and a couple of close friends who are all also autistic, but I definitely haven’t figured out how to connect with neurotypical people at any meaningful level. I think that’s largely because we tend to crave deeper connection than neurotypicals, so we’re trying to connect with them more than they have any interest in connecting with anyone. That’s not a bad thing, necessarily. I think we just connect in fundamentally different ways that make it difficult (but not impossible) to maintain relationships.
Also, I don’t have any reading material to suggest, but there are a handful of “Autism Youtubers” that I think have interesting content like Orion Kelly or Trevor Carroll.
I make no claim against the lack of freedom on Apple devices, but “un-free” doesn’t mean “user-hostile”. We’re talking about the perceived quality of experience for the user, not anything else. Like, look, don’t get me wrong, I still hate Apple (and all the big tech corpos) out of principle- but they provide an objectively better user experience for the vast majority of people.
I fully agree with that sentiment, for what it’s worth. Apple is authoritarian but at least they’re mostly transparent about it.
Fair, but I think that while Apple is generally more authoritarian with regard to developer experience, they’re less user-hostile overall and generally strike a good (at least compared to the current alternatives) balance between freedom, privacy, and usability for most people.
I think Google (and Silicon Vally writ large) is coming to terms with the fact that past a certain size userbase, authoritarianism is necessary to maintain control, consistency, and (very importantly) safety… where Apple has pretty much always embraced it; for better or worse.
I could easily turn this into a larger critique about society and governance, federated republics being necessary in the long-term versus corporate monoliths, and the “10x everything” culture being the root of the new tech-right, but I will digress, lol.
Are we seriously going to pretend that Google hasn’t been just as evil for years now? At least Apple is able to provide a halfway-decent UX…

It’s mostly the porn.

I was trying to figure out if it was saying that the QR codes are a phishing attack vector (obvious, be careful of what you do with QR code links) or if someone figured out how to package actual malware into a QR code (completely different, is an actual threat), or both.

No, no, “the fuck” comes after; not just “fuck”.

I’d like to see similar testing done comparing models where the “misaligned” data is present during training, as opposed to fine-tuning. That would be a much harder thing to pull off, though.
I’m just imagining the human half doing like a naruto run.

This version is all I knew about for years because I played so much NFSU2 as a kid.
i was disappointed when all i saw was this “prop 50” thing on my california ballot and no option to vote for zohran mamdani
