Wow. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. You have more patience than I do.
Thanks I’ll have to check it out!

Thanks, good info. That is one thing I think I like less about Lemmy vs Reddit. On reddit we only had to worry about certain subreddits, but here we have to worry about communities and entire instances… I’ll just have to get used to it and maybe make a new account on another instance after comparing them some more.

That’s true, it’s not as bad as I was originally thinking. However, there’s probably a reason traditional power plants never use jet engines for power production. According to this article, “But repurposed aircraft turbines tend to be less efficient and more polluting than engines designed for conventional gas-burning plants.”
That would be nice, but I meant an alternative to Signal. Sorry I wasn’t very clear.

I’m sorta new here myself so I might not get all this right, but decentralized is what it sounds like; Lemmy as a whole is not hosted by one central person/company. Instead, each Lemmy server (instance?) is hosted by a different person or group, so if lemmy.world ever gets shut down you’ll still be able to use all the other servers like Lemmy.zip or Lemmy.ml.
The fediverse, short for federated universe, encompasses all software that uses the ActivityPub protocol (I think) so Lemmy is only part of the fediverse. Mastodon is also part of the fediverse, although it is more similar to Twitter rather than Reddit, and since both Lemmy and Mastodon are part of the fediverse they can view and post content to each other. I don’t understand the cross communication aspect well so if someone else knows I would be happy to hear.
Some crypto was designed to be useful, and some was designed to be an investment scam. But everyone is investing in all crypto so none of it makes sense.

Oh I looked it up and you’re right that future crimes can’t be pardoned. It doesn’t help that the media talks about preemptive pardons like they are for future crimes, when it really only means crimes that have been committed but no charges have been filed yet. https://northernkentuckylawreview.com/blog/preemptive-pardons-explained-understanding-president-bidens-family-pardons

Like a dimentia patient, “no mom’s not dead, she’s just at the store.” Whatever it takes to prevent him from bombing an ally.

AI can make decisions and micromanage. What’s stopping the higher ups from replacing lower management now?

Ha why did I read this as comedian dentist
I don’t like the phone number requirement either, but is there a better alternative?

Hadn’t heard of immich, I already run a plex server so shouldn’t be too bad to set up. That just leaves the big problem of switching all my existing accounts off gmail.
Good info for those of us who still have an iPhone. A pixel with grapheme OS still seems like the best option for a smartphone so I think I’ll switch to that for my next phone.

I’m sure it’s a tactic to make the schools allow AI, but I hope they can resist. Google does not need a stranglehold on every person in every market. Google search has gotten worse anyway, so even duck duck go would be fine. Maybe even use this as an opportunity to teach kids about data privacy.

Yes but it only comes with a metal claw

Wow this can’t be efficient. Jet engines are primarily designed to produce thrust. But looks like Musk got special permission from the state to pollute more, so all’s good!
Do you have any examples of good decisions he made? From what I remember he bought Tesla well after it was making money and not much has changed except his decision to remove lidar sensors and he keeps promising new cars or features that don’t come out for 5+ years, I don’t know what decisions he made with spacex, the hyperloop was never a feasible idea, twitter seems to have gotten worse since he bought it, and I don’t knowb if the boring company is still around honestly. Plus there’s the stuff like his Doge coin rug pull, doing an actual Nazi salute because Trump was elected, and the allegations about him helping rig the election for Trump, stealing taxpayer money and data, aiding the antagonists in the Russia-Ukraine war, and the Epstein-related claims.
I won’t try to claim he’s done nothing positive, but I actually can’t think of anything.
