  • I stopped eating almost any beef after discovering the cute cow gifs subreddit. They can be so puppy like! They’re also huge methane machines and having fewer cows would be good for the environment.

On the other hand, I crave a good pot roast maybe once a year.

Edit: and I can name my mother’s favorite childhood cow and the cow my grandpa let me name because we shared a birthday.

I’m trying to square my instinct that

    1. snails aren’t bugs (because they’re squishy without the shell) with the feeling that
    2. crabs are bugs (because they’d go tap-tap if you tapped on their exoskeleton with a finger) but
    3. hermit crabs aren’t bugs if they’re in a shell but are bugs if they’re naked

My old manager used to take his team out to a Szechuan Chinese place and order for us, family style. It was awesome.

I’m white AF and it was the first time I had actually spicy Chinese food. He’d also order a few mild dishes for the pair of no-spice folk on the team.

Thinking back, manager was a Chinese immigrant, most team mates were Indian immigrants, and the spice-free teammates were both white. (I mention immigrant because my Indian teammates with kids would complain about their American-born kids’ low spice tolerance.)

Native English speaker. What I got is “His guts were fucked up in these technical ways so we did magical medical stuff. He went home, came back a 5 months later with sad butt symptoms and we did this other medical thing to treat it.”

So yeah, I have no desire to understand more details

  • My reading: new legislation that will kick the voter in the metaphorical balls will go into effect after the next election, when presumedly the Democrats will be in charge. Voters will be kicked in the balls and blame the party in charge for their pain. This is despite the Republicans being the ones who passed the ball-kicking legislation.

Edit: and the only way the Republicans will be blamed is if they are still in power when the ball kicking occurs.

My estate lawyer was great. She helped my partner and I write up our wills and made the process as relaxed as possible. We also have powers of attorneys and all that good “we’re not close to our parents and don’t want them making decisions if we can’t” documentation.

Plus she had candy in the waiting room, which really helps cut the tension in hard conversations. Need time to think? Have a bit of laffy taffy.

Also liked my real estate lawyer from when I bought my house. She let us bring our pup to the signing, since that made logistics easier.

  • I love mine. They’re also autistic, have dogs, and call me out when I try and change the subject off of something difficult. At first I worried that meeting over video call would affect how body language is read, but, no, seems to work fine.

My first therapist was also great and had a dog. Maybe that’s the rule?

Oh, and fuck health insurance sideways. They’re consistently at least 6 months behind in reimbursing me for seeing an out-of-network therapist.

  • Not a parent, not friends with my adult sibling: I suspect having emotionally mature adults around them would help. Also, don’t constantly side with the child with easier needs when there is a conflict between children. (Example: I wanted to not hear my brother’s music in my room. Brother wanted to play his music. Brother got his way. I got ear plugs.)

Don’t make the older child always do the selfless thing because they’re “more mature”. They shouldn’t have to share everything. (Example: brother got to ‘help’ blow out the candles on my birthday cake. He spat all over it because he was a toddler.)

  • Agreed, it’s gross seeing poo bags on the trail.

I have a dog. I scoop the poop. I use bags that claim to be compostable and I put them in the bin. I don’t like carrying a full poo bag. That’s why I have a little scent proof zippered I hang from my leash. I don’t leave the bag on the side of the trail and lie that I’ll totally pick it up on my way back.

At home I use these magic corn based ones that dissolve in the toilet.

I’m estranged from my mom’s family, but I found out my cousin’s kid is queer and now we email back and forth. Kid is in high school and I think it does him good to know he’s not the only queer person in the family. His mom’s decent, we just didn’t have much of a relationship because my cousin’s mom sucks so much.

Edit: and his mom knows we correspond, she’s cool with it.
