  • I’m playing Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch 2. Only on Chapter 4. It took me a few hours of patiently waiting for RNG to drop White Cometite for Lin’s affinity quest. I read that many people were stuck on that. :) Fortunately, I was able to explore some other areas and do some simple tasks in the meantime.

That’s on Nintendo front, on my Steam Deck I’m playing AI: The Somnium Files off which I bounced some time ago, but it stuck in my mind and I gave it another go and it clicked this time. Different mindset and expectations, I guess.

  • The cheapest :P SAGUARO. I actually thought it was Spanish and only on the packaging I saw it’s a Chinese product. I just want to try it out and be able to trash it if I don’t like them, didn’t want to risk with something more expensive. I know that it’s possible that more expensive shoes might be a better fit but still.

  • Ah, I see. That sounds good, wish I could do that with my partner, but she doesn’t like the type of books that I read. However, the books she reads are somewhat interesting to me, but I am a slow reader while she’s a very fast one, so it wouldn’t work for two reasons — one is that she’d have to wait for me to catch up and the other is that I get the feeling of spending time reading something that I wouldn’t normally choose and the awareness of the books that I actually want to read sitting there and waiting for me. :) However, maybe if we did that with 1 or 2 books a year… I don’t really have anyone to talk to about books because most people around me don’t read :(

  • I think my problem is the 1st person POV in books featuring Fitz. Liveship Traders is more like all the other fantasy series with a rich cast of characters and shifting perspectives. Meanwhile, we can only see through Fitz’ eyes and learn of his interpretation of who did what and what HE felt about it. We don’t really KNOW why THEY did something, including the villains. What I loved about Liveship Traders was how deep Hobb went into psychology of her characters. Especially

Malta, whom I hated and then loved, it was such a natural progression, so human, I can only applaud the author.

I’m getting a feeling that something similar may happen with Sedric in Rain Wilds. Currently I really dislike the guy.

Back to Fitz - I was expecting something else from books with “Assassin” in their title ;) I thought he was the worst assassin in the world, haha. Eh, I wish I loved those books like you do. But there’s something to Hobb’s writing, I have to admit she makes beautiful prose, her books give me pleasure from reading the words and sentences, apart from the story (I am not a native English speaker, but I read her books mostly in English).

Re WoT – did you mean Wheel of Time? It used to be my favorite series when I was a teenager. I am actually re-reading it after 20+ years, I’m somewhere in the middle. I learned it’s very difficult for me to read such a long series, though, because I keep forgetting everything between the books, it just takes too long for me.

  • Probably won’t read any more McCarthy after this.

So is this your first McCarthy novel? I consider him one of my favorite authors, but “Blood Meridian” was nothing special to me. Neither was “The Road” which is always highly praised and was my first book of his. The reason why I consider McCarthy a great author is his Border Trilogy, starting with “All the Pretty Horses”, it was so atmospheric and touching. There is always some violence but the focus of those books is elsewhere, it hits hard in the feels ;) So maybe, before you decide never to give him another chance, try that one more book. If you do, I’d love to hear about your experience.

  • I was going to ask about that – how to delete my account if I get locked out and won’t provide my ID. It sounds like a real hassle. I had my LinkedIn account suspended for a long time now because I don’t find that website useful, but I still wanted to have options. This year I received a few emails from them telling me that some of my contacts solved some online quizzes on LinkedIn and that I should try. Who has time for online quizzes?! That must be the same type of person who plays Solitaire on their Windows PC. And also they are probably bored at their job, I’m not (quite the contrary).
