Personal Finance Canada@lemmy.ca•Looking to move my stocks - Questrade or IKBR?
3·3 个月前The first and most obvious would I suppose be that their automated investing account has proven useless to me. The positions they chose and the fees resulted in losses the first couple of years and barely scraped back to +10% the last couple. I immediately beat it 3x by just dumping into ETFs, and even beat it with my for-funsies unregistered.
The rest is vibes. Everything they do gives me major “fintech company that will lose my money in a couple of years” e.g Yotta. I have felt a little put off for a while due to things like higher CDIC limit which is achieved via them using other companies.
For chequing account holders, Wealthsimple may spread client funds across one or multiple CDIC members in order to extend the CDIC coverage to up to $1,000,000 for eligible deposits. Source
Pair that with their Cash card being a prepaid credit card and it feels as though they’re pairing some really odd methods together just to get the same % return I can get elsewhere.
A point which I had against them, but is quickly becoming irrelevant as other finance websites including Questrade follow, is the derelection of traditional account linking in favour of an insistence to use Flinks. Giving my bank password to a random third party that should never need to be in the process is insanity to me. Why banks can’t just setup Oauth schemes I don’t know. I guess I’ll be using etransfer more and more for now.
The final nail this week was their emailing me to announce a prediction market (gambling) service. Wealthsimple Predict is the latest in their line of chasing trends and they claim you can “predict” (gamble) things as menial as the weather. I understand stocks have risk and can be seen as a gamble, but “prediction markets” are pretty obviously gambling in a bow-tie. Keep it to the casinos, I’m out.
In summary, I want my financial institutions boring. I don’t want my money to be with a company that is constantly trying to chase the newest fad, find loopholes in the banking system to get an extra 0.5%, and making gambles (literally and figuratively). It gives me constant doubt as to their future.

Where I live in Canada we have a requirement with a specific start and end date for highway driving because our overpasses are through mountains and get very snowy. No requirement in the city though, so I could run unstudded winter tires year round as long as I don’t mind destroying them in the summer heat.
My riding last election was tied 50/50 liberals NDP and yet even adding up all those votes conservatives would still win. I assume a lower con and higher lib turnout this time around but honestly I can’t be sure, I think the con voters here are lifetime.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Speed limit to increase in nearly 200 school zones in Mississauga
5·2 年前Seriously. In BC it’s 50km/h outside school hours (8am-5pm) or days. Unless signed otherwise, but I’ve never seen one different.

1·2 年前I can’t speak for coffee, but I know several good local tea shops! Still not as convenient as the Starbucks on every corner, sure, but often better.

5·2 年前Cool to see some brands I already use on here. Speaking of, I kinda thought everyone used Sun-Rype for their juice anyway. I mean, I am biased as I’ve been by their HQ multiple times so it just feels natural to buy their brand, but still.

1·2 年前The business I work for had flights, hotels, and rental cars booked for some of our employees which have to be rescheduled for several thousand dollars, not counting the later overtime from running late at the job site. I am quite happy to sit at home but I don’t envy our admin team right now and I can only imagine the impact to other peoples and businesses plans.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you live in the Pacific time zone what are the advantages and disadvatages over living in the Eastern time zone?
2·2 年前This is a double-edged sword! I find online events will often be scheduled to coincide with 3-6 PM EST as people get off work, meanwhile that’s 12-3 for me and I am still working dang it.
Perhaps if I platform on banning Albertan drivers I may have a chance.

Can you imagine if they discounted it based on time? People would be scanning .4 items per minute lol
