4·17 hours agoyou can absolutely do these things yourself! but it’s also become socially acceptable, socially expected even, to outsource these kinds of specialized tasks to specialists.
It’s not just a social issue. When we consider the planning and shopping and prep work and cleanup, cooking is (like most of the tasks you listed) enormously time consuming. Lots of people have so little free time in their lives that regularly cooking their own meals just doesn’t make sense.
Cooking freezable meals in bulk can help, as can taking turns with someone else in the household (if there is anyone else). But the time cost is still significant.
They asked for a GUI library, not an inflatable whale.
I’ve heard GTK programs don’t look great on Windows,
They don’t look great anywhere, not even on Linux, unless you happen to be using a Gtk-based desktop.
However, Gtk does have one thing going for it: the API is native to C, so it is easier to work with in that language (and easier to bind to other languages) than something like Qt would be.
Pre-ordering games encourages publishers to release buggy, unoptimized, incomplete, garbage.
And, since there’s no scarcity, the assurance you might get from pre-ordering physical goods doesn’t exist here.
Please don’t do it.

3·5 days agoMost astonishing for me, that it’s still called Master bedroom and bathroom, which has that direct origin.
The word master does not originate from slavery. If you study the etymology, you’ll also find that it significantly predates slave, and has more than a few meanings that are not even remotely related to slavery.
If I want to watch resource usage over time, KDE Plasma’s System Monitor does the job. I like that I can customize its panels and graph data from just about any sensor in the system.
For anything else, it’s usually command line tools like ps, pgrep, kill, and occasionally plain old top.
Do any Wayland compositors support it?

Especially the ones we inflict upon ourselves and each other.
The package is experimental and is mainly for developers of cryptographic libraries, not for application developers.
Seems to me that any application that accepts password input should be doing this. I wish more languages offered a reliable way to do it.
