It’s possible that Kohls’ concerns about AB 2839 are unwarranted. Newsom spokesperson Izzy Gardon told Politico that Kohls’ parody label on X was good enough to clear him of liability under the law.
Kinda telling on himself given the “with actual malice” part of it
That title is not easy to decipher
Same. It did stop me scrolling though just to see wtf anyway. Haha
Defending the Constitutional right to be a dick.
He pointed to a long history of political cartoons and comedic impressions of politicians, claiming that “AI-generated commentary, though a new mode of speech, falls squarely within this tradition.”
Yeah, sure. Basically a “potato potahto” thing.
His argument doesn’t fly because he didn’t indicate that his political commentary was just that and not real, so it could have been misconstrued as real, which is what the deepfake law is trying to prevent.
‘Calif’…
Are we making up nicknames for states now?
“Calif.” is one of the two traditional abbreviations for California.
Written abbreviations. I live here and NO ONE calls it “Calif.”.
I live here too. I’ve seen it many times.
PS- the post title is written? I guess I don’t see your point.
Abbreviations are usually read the same way the word they’re replacing are spoken. So, you’re right! Nobody’s saying “Calif.”
… usually…
“The Jr. Dr. in the dept. of ABC Ltd. who weighed 180 lb., read p. 6, 11, etc.”
l’m going to start. Anytime someone says “I’m taking the 70 to the 25” in Denver I’ll ask them if they are from “Calif”
Good thing this was written then.
California’s name is made up. Literally a place from Spanish fiction novel.
All names are made up!
All language is arbitrary.
Cf. Ferdinand de Saussure.
Onomatopoeia words are not arbitrary.
But they do follow the phonotactics of the speaker’s language – the rules of which are ultimately arbitrary.
