As per title. Now they are living in the permanent war propping up unsustainable state, which will crumble one day.

I don’t have any factual basis for it but I have had the emotional reaction like this.

It feels like some sort of long term trick has been played. Israelis (who are all Jews, and who try to act as though they rep all Jews) are back to being ghettoized Europeans who are exempted from certain norms/laws that bind others. Israel offers various services related to police, military and surveillance that would be distasteful if done elsewhere. They are both of and separate from europe. And to strategic value of being located in the middle east.

Overall conducting business on behalf of the ruling class. As per previous they are set up to be scapegoated for problems of the economic system in its entirety. Which is going really hard now. We’ve always had political repression but now some Jews have taken on being the face of that, explicitly on behalf of all Jews.

And Israel has become the public face of Holocaust and antisemitism denialism. By constantly comparing every tiny thing opposed to Israel to those, they minimize and deny. That is so twisted it feels like nobody could do it to themselves.

As the other person pointed out, people were happy for Jews to be out of Europe after ww2. People felt guilty about the holocaust and not resisting or aiding more. But not so guilty that they wanted to give up their apartment or job or live in proximity to a bunch of traumatized poor people that they never liked much to begin with. Israel was convenient to everyone. Nobody really thought of the Arabs; theyd just be colonized and displaced like so many brown/nonchristian populations before them.

I wonder what would have happened if not for the historical contingency of Zionism already being available. I dont think it could have been invented out of whole cloth in the moment.
