Just a few days ago, we reported on Jolla’s push for a new Linux phone, which needed at least 2,000 pre-orders to move forward. Now, only days later, there’s good news: interest in the device has surpassed all expectations.
Jolla’s community-funded smartphone project has cleared its production threshold, securing more than 3,200 pre-orders. The strong response ensures that the new Linux phone, developed under the Do It Together (DIT) model, will move forward into manufacturing, with Batch #1 already sold out and Batch #2 now available.
Note they’re pre-selling for the second batch now with a full price of 549€. If you reserved during the weekend, before that text was there you’re in the first batch for 499€
Jolla has updated the page, clarifying the batch totals: batch #1 is the first 2700 orders, batch #2 will be 2000 orders so up to 4700.
I think Jolla was caught by surprise by the amount of demand during the weekend.
I still miss my N9.
I mean, this is great, but it’s dicey to even try a “nonstandard” phone here in Oz (if you could even get this) with network carriers blocking Furios phones and Xperias capable of running Jolla. I wish I could get one of these, maybe someday seeing the demand for this now things will change.
Well, I’m a little bummed out about this; i bought the C2 a month ago…
I will get interested if there’s mainline kernel support or at least some work on it. I don’t see the point of buying another phone that’s basically coming with a death sentence out of the box making me unable to get patches once the ancient downstream kernel is no longer maintained.
Exorbitantly costly pre tax, post tax it will be unrealistic.
Fuck it. I would like to have one, but I’m jobless right now and can’t afford it.
Do they have a headphone jack ? If no then the phone is not worth buying
