I just had a Ukrainian-Canadian tell me Russian is not Slavic but Finnic/Turkic/aSiAtiC hOrDes. There’s a difference between opposing Putin and denying linguistic reality. Sorry, but linguistics doesn’t care about your feelings about Putin.

    Translation:

They’re not really white. Unlike us.

I mean Russia is a gigantic country with many different kinds of people so it doesn’t matter what they think. Slapping a label on it is only for racist purposes.

Once met a Polish nationalist who unironically thought Russians were Swedes LARPing as Slavs and using the Rurikids & the origins of Novgorod as evidence.

Racism really does make you dumb.

Some Polish chuds and historians would love to have the dynasty be descendants of vikings, but the only thing they have is misread of one of oldest documents issued by Mieszko I which actually says “I, Duke Mieszko” but they read it as “Law of Dagome”.

If anything, it was in the other way, since Mieszko’s daughter Świętosława, married first Eric the Victorious and next Swein Forkbeard and she was the mother of Cnut the Great.

Well, according to Polish nobility’s own mythology, Poles are not Slavs either, they’re Sarmatians descended from… Iran (funny how the concept of Aryan has the same geographical roots, totally unrelated… or is it?).
