Nothing ever makes war okay, but it’s incredibly juvenile to act like this is the only factor to be considered.
The U.S. installed a fascist regime in Kyiv to remove a pro-Russian government that was democratically elected. Said fascist regime then began conducting ethnic cleansing against its Russian minority. That minority fought back and asked Russia for assistance. Russia spent 8 years trying to negotiate an end to the conflict to no avail before deciding to invade.
None of that makes Russia’s invasion correct, but it does explain why they took the actions that they did. Pretending like this didn’t happen (even though it’s well-documented) or that it doesn’t matter (it does) is an unserious treatment of geopolitics bordering on satirical.
Russia is to blame for the invasion, but Ukraine and the United States are to blame for giving the Russians a pretext to invade in the first place. Neither Washington nor Kyiv needed to behave the way they did; they acted on their own selfish reasoning for their own selfish interests at the expense of peace and human life. That makes them far more guilty than Russia.
