Just something that bugs me. Even close family members get on my nerves sometimes. The corporations have made everything so dumbed down and instant that people cant process info in their own brains anymore or wait for anything.

The short form video slop definitely doesnt help. People cant even pay attention long enough for a movie now. Asking them to wait 3 seconds while you put in a dvd is now unheard of, archaic, and shameful. Imagine them having to thread up a reel of tape (something i was just doing today)!

I guess the point of what im saying is, if you have kids…please take away their ipads and give them a linux machine from 2005 with a manual and limited internet access so we dont have a million more idiots running around in 15 years.

We’ve had idiots running around in every time period humans have ever been in.

Humans are somehow both the smartest species on the planet, and the dumbest.

I agree with some of it and disagree with other bits. Lack of self-discipline is definitely an issue in a number of areas.

Not all short form video is bad; it has its time and place. I would rather not break up a long video multiple times when I have time to watch something, and would rather dedicate the time to watch it in one shot. Edit: History Matters for a concrete example. 3-5 minute mini-documentaries explaining something about history.

I don’t think the idea that giving kids an old linux machine is somehow going to just solve things. Patient people and disciplined people existed well before computers and existed after smartphones. There are a number of other factors at play here that, as with most things, defy a single cause and single solution.

It takes small steps but hopefully they’ll learn eventually and see the benefits.

I know when I showed SO what you can do without corporate platforms they were like why doesnt everyone do this? I agree. Its not that hard if you are patient.
