Am I crazy not to trust Chinese developed games ?

There is no question over the last 10 years the quality and production level of Chinese developed games has seem to sky rocket. Many of these games even being free to play. But honestly I haven’t played a single one. For the same reasons I refused to download TikTok.

China is a well known surveillance state. I worry downloading and playing these games especially on a PC or mobile phone would just be a huge privacy risk.

Am I being to paranoid ? Are there some regulations I’m not aware of that might protect me anyway ?

I feel like I’m missing out on some really high quality visually striking games because of it

    They probably play US-surveillance-state games with kernel level anti-cheat or always-online single player.

      Bizzare logic (the spying one). Folks in Russia joke that they’re fine with foreign apps collecting data cause there isn’t much they can do with it anyway. While locals collecting data are 1) incapable of actual protection of said data 2) can definitely do smth with it if they wish so. Hence all the jokes about your local FSB guy being upset over people using Whatsapp/Telegram and not Max (local badly coded spyware masquerading as messenger). :D

        And in most countries that argument would be solid. Unfortunately in Russia specifically this argument does not apply at the moment. Giving away your data to foreign entities outside of Russia could literally endanger you and your family. Ukraine runs an entire scamming industry just targeting Russians.

        And losing money is the least of your worries. A lot of people in Russia have been blackmailed into participating in terrorism by Ukrainians who hacked them. Best case scenario you get caught and go to prison. Worst case the Ukrainians literally blow you up in the attack without you even knowing you were a sacrificial pawn.

        I would strongly advise Russians at the moment to switch to domestic platforms, even if they are imperfect right now. China has greatly benefited from having its own separate online ecosystem.

    Putting aside the fact that the US runs the largest mass surveillance network in the world for a moment, lets say China is actually collecting American’s data for nefarious reasons. What do liberals think China could realistically do with all this information? It goes to show how incredibly fucking racist they are.

    I’d be more worried about all those Isntreali based game development software and games. They are using the data they collect to influence US speech and also share it with the US government. Isntreal is a cancer permeating the gaming industry.
