I’m indifferent but I think its just shifting the implication from when a gender was assigned to who assigned it. Unfortunately both will become useful as distinct terms cause im sure the state isnt too far from assigning genders to adults pretty soon.

The assignment of gender to a person is already a constant and multifaceted process happening to people of all ages. You have a marker on your birth certificate that extends to other forms of identification, don’t you?

Yes, at birth and it was assigned by the state. So assigned x at birth by the state would be the most accurate but I think either is implied regardless of which you choose to emphasize. The state assigns your gender at birth, so either or works.

theory-gary As a cool* bonus the state may also choose to redesignate your gender based on ✨ the vibes ✨ if you are intersex and they sufficiently dislike you and/or find it convenient!

Just had a daydream about male being the Statue of Liberty of genders. Give me your tired, your queer, your huddled masses. And then let them compete in the men’s divisions in sports. When you go into the bathroom and Welcome to the Jungle starts playing. Then they coordinate your sexuality based off of being a male-refugee.

Then there’s an anti-refugee sentiment by a core male constituency and then you’ve just created a microcosm of America where you thought you were inheriting a burden saving people from queer alienation but really it would have been redemption for you by liberalizing what it means to be a man.

But then males accept too many bad apples, go mad with power, and create a one state solution for gender.

…okay your new task is to never realise this as a complete work of fiction because it’s too weird and horrible. Splendid dream though, very well realised.

Just want to emphasize that the complete work a fiction, from word one, is not pragmatic, diagnostic, recommended, kosher, halal, vegan, contextually relevant, or useful.

But I DO have it on good authority that they do have fun and games.

The correct followup to the deeply yappy comment I made is “Beyond Pink and Blue by Leslie Feinberg is a useful read for an intro to gender assigment as a concept and also just rocks” doggirl-smart
