Finished Expedition 33 and it was very good!

My biggest issues is that at the end the enemies were getting pretty tiring to fight. Though I did not attempt it at a lower difficulty then normal.

Also, I wish they did the thing a lot of turn based games do now a days and let you restart the fight. I mean you basically do that when you die anyway.

And then finally…the story end.

spoiler

So I wouldn’t have a issue as much but both endings treat the canvas people as not important. You spend the entire game learning and caring about this entire world and the people. You watch them struggle to get to live. To have the right to live outside the tyranny of this family. But in the end its like the narrative forgot about it and just focus on the narrative of grief and Verso vs Maelle.

Like I love this game but found this very frustrating. It kind of felt like they were hoping that we would just forget that these are people with real lives inside this world.

Obviously Verso should be able to be at peace. Obviously Maelle needs to learn to let go and become her own person. But none of these French petite bourgeoisie see the world as valid. Even by the end Maelle just sees the world as something to be used.

Though unintentionally wonderful example of how such power can fuck with a person.

But yeah. It bugs the hell out of me that it seems like we can’t really save them. (No way it ends well in Maelle ending). Like rubs me the wrong way as a communist.

But generally speaking I enjoyed it and will probably be on my mind a lot. Def recommend it. Especially if you want a new age turn based.

Tbh i found the game a bit too easy. Especially because parrying just allows you to never invest in health and you can just stack a lot of the pictos and luminas. I had to increase the difficulty to max and nerf myself on purpose by not leveling up stats and adding no additional lumina points after a while. Half way through, the devs patched the game to add more difficulty modifiers, so i also doubled the health of the enemies. After that, the difficulty was pretty good.

    As for the ending:

Keep in mind that both endings lead to the destruction of the canvas. So, Maelles ending will absolutely not end well anyway, because after her death the canvas is getting destroyed. Creating live in a canvas, that you know will not exist permanently, already means that you do not really value the people inside the canvas as much.

So, i agree that the canvas people, besides the maincast, are just kinda not all that important in the story. Also, at the end, everyone is already gommaged and needs to be repainted again, so the deed is already done anyway.

Them being able to create live in a non-permanent dimension is actually so weird to me tbh. Especially when they can decide on the entire personality.

That’s wild to me! I was on normal and honestly struggled a lot at the end. The DLC boss I spent almost an hour on and then felt my spirit die when he transitioned into a new phase. I didn’t even touch the super boss. Watched someone do it and my jaw was on the floor. I thought they were cheating at first.

I parried instead of getting defense, this allowed for more damage output and buffs/debuffs. It also forced me to basically semi-perfect every boss (i still used revives).

I feel like parrying turns it into a low level rhythm game haha

The issue is I sucked at parrying lol. I even failed a lot with dodging. I was playing on the TV so others could watch so that might of had something to do with it but I’ve not been the best as rythem games anyway.
