There’s a skateboard movie Gleaming the Cube, part of the plot is a Vietnamese anti-communist group in California embezzling money and sending illegal weapons to Vietnam. It stars Christian Slater and features a bunch of young skaters like Tony Hawk and Stacy Peralta. Sorry this is sort of off topic, I just like mentioning it when I get the chance because it just sounds absurd to describe.
America’s Vietnamese diaspora are mostly conservative and extremely anti-communist in general (especially first generation ones), I think there’s just a lot of them in Orange County. There were huge waves of Vietnamese immigrants in the 70s/80s, and the vast majority were from capitalist South Vietnam; privileged kulaks fleeing after the communist North won the war
Most older Vietnamese-Americans exclusively fly the outdated flag of South Vietnam, and will froth at the mouth if they see the modern unified flag 🇻🇳
Yes, basing on my personal experience living in the state as a Viet. You see them wave the South Vietnam’s flag everywhere. Constantly call for the destruction of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. And of course rabidly support any anti-communist actions just like those Cuban gusanos and Iranian monarchist. In fact, one of the most bodily dangerous thing to do in Orange County is have the current Vietnamese flag, red flag with gold star, on your body or car.
Is there a prominent reactionary Vietnamese diaspora in Orange County?

Lol I totally forgot the plot, I just vaguely remember an arms deal going down in a garage or something. Gotta give that a rewatch one of these days.
