In both the original and the remake the beginning up until they leave Midgar is so good
Don’t get me wrong, the rest of the game is good too, but the game shines the brightest when it’s about ecoterrorists fighting Shinra
The whole dirty 90s neoTokyo cyberpunk aesthetic is a vibe too
Wall Market aged poorly though.
The game tries to subsume Barrett about it with his lines to the effect of ‘I was just mad when I blew up the sector it was wrong! people died!’ but it falls flat imo. Hard to deny that blowing up a mako reactor was the right move, plus the music bopped
