Great movie but I’m confused why it was ever rated R in the first place. There were some disturbing scenes but there wasn’t any nudity or that much swearing, or even blood. It’s the most PG-13 R-rated movie I ever watched.

Nolan really isn’t the gratuitous type unless it’s production related or cerebral I guess

It is R rated? That’s crazy. In Germany they’re often pretty harsh with age ratings but The Odyssey is FSK12 (there are fsk0, 6, 12, 16 and 18), so you can watch it alone if you’re 12+ or with parents if you’re below 12.

No Fleeting nudity, no barely any blood, no low-grade cursing? In a Greco-Roman classic?! What the actual. 🤦🏼‍♂️

      fixed 😉

No kidding the ONLY reason I could think rated R because it says fuck twice.

The MPAA absolutely hates swear words. More than nudity or violence. That is almost certainly why it got an R, regardless of what they might claim. It’s also a relatively obscured process with no oversight or appeal system.

The embargo on bad language is the most bizarre holdover from the 1960’s ever, considering there’s almost zero censorship of bad language on social media, which is way easier to stumble into than a film. It’s also probably the least worrisome thing a kid is going to experience in 2026; the average age of a kid looking at porn now is 10 years old in the USA. Interesting how the ratings system hasn’t evolved in that regard for decades.

            Zero censorship on social media?

The term unalive has replaced dead or suicide basically everywhere on social media because of censorship on language (albeit for advertisers, but it still has the same result).

Yeah this was a til its R rated.

Good movie but I had zero clue after watching it, that it was considered R rated.

I’m equally confused. My best guess would be the giant munching on guys, but that still seems PG-13.
