    Nuclear never was economical. It is only profitable since the government pays for a large part of the cost and initial construction is the main cost and when you amortized that cost(in the books) you still have plenty of now profitable years left.

      Government usually builds infrastructure of all kinds. Its kinda the whole point.

        Usually the cheapest possible to serve a purpose instead of paying out of their arse to get a commodity product for more expensive.

      And don’t forget decommissioning. That’s another huge expense that ultimately the taxpayer gets saddled with. And there’s still no solution for safe, long term storage. Civilian nuclear power was only ever a smoke screen for weapons programs.
