Wowza! He really seems to care about his employees knowing the financials of this company they work for. Why doesn’t he just show them the whole books, revenue and all?

Back in my younger days I almost felt bad for my boss whining about this kind of shit until I was unloading stock and got a look at what he was actually paying for supplies/ingredients and was able to do the math on the difference between what materials cost, what I was paid, and what the final product sold for.

Needless to say I never worried myself about his expenses ever again

$14,000 for a stainless steel table?

Years ago my spouse and I had a small business license while we were living/working in an American puppet state overseas. (We had a small English tutoring business and we were the only employees.) This license unlocked access to wholesale retailers and all kinds of discounts that regular people don’t know about. Everything was ridiculously cheap. She bought me fancy clothes for like $5 each. Small business owners are a joke. The government bends over backwards for them in countless ways and 70% of their businesses still fail within ten years of starting because they just can’t compete with big business and are incompetent fools with the most serious cases of main character syndrome I have ever encountered. (Our own business never did well because there was a lot of competition and just not enough time or energy in the day to make big bucks.)

Despite all the discounts and help from the government, small business owners still get squeezed by their big business suppliers and can’t afford to offer attractive salaries to their workers. Many of them still work like crazy and drive themselves completely out of their minds since they can’t/won’t understand how the system really works.

    • yeah, i call 100% BS on that $14K “custom” table. if that’s what he paid, he’s laundering, embezzling, or a fool.

similarly, i always outfit my kitchen in restaurant supply shit if i can orchestrate it. shipping to a residence can be crazy expensive for large items if you need a lift gate/don’t have a loading dock, but i intend to solve this riddle one day lol.

In addition to the fact that he’s clearly making money just fine and clearly just taking any opportunity to shit on his young employees/telling them what to say… Let’s see how full of shit this guy is:

Based on the size of that cambro, it looks like that’s at most 5L of very fancy chocolate “chips”, which with the density of chocolate chips, comes out to less than a quarter of the $405 per 20kg he cited, probably under $80

The bread slicer is currently $5000 on webstaurantstore. Maybe 5400 with tax

That particular vanilla paste is expensive but… Can be had for $50 for 16 oz at Costco. In larger bulk it would certainly be possible to get a little cheaper

The $14000 custom dish line I have no reference for, but if it weren’t custom made it genuinely might be less than 10% of that.

In addition to it being an utterly pointless gotcha to start with, my man exaggerated whenever there was opportunity.
