A gym for the brain. Wait books are real good, why don’t we gather a bunch of literature in one place. A little latin and we’ll call it a library.

Then when we need the assistance of others we can employ other people who are more educated than us. We’ll call them educators or teachers, we can then gather up a bunch of people who want to learn in once place. We can call that a school…

Bro need to go to his fucking brain gym.

Gyms were created long before ‘modern day work’. The point of the gym was community organized recreational activity.

modern day work no longer required physical activity

I need to point out that this is an outright lie.

We do not live in a post-muscle world, we live in a world where we have the illusion of being post-muscle, an illusion that will last maybe 100-150 years at the expense of overturning all of Earth’s mineral resources onto a despoiled surface.

We have not invented the principles of physics, chemistry, and biology out of existence. There will not be billions of flying cars in the future, any more than there will be a walled city floating above the clouds. It doesn’t matter what productive technology you invent if you have a constantly increasing demand; for any kind of livability you need to point to a certain level of supply that is enough. Net Primary Productivity is something that we’ll have to return to as an anchor for society, sooner or later.

Just as using remote energy (fossil fuels) allowed the rapid expansion and proliferation of empires, so too will advances in energy-hungry computing models further the cause of empire.

Self-sufficiency and appropriate technology are indispensable factors of liberation.

People scroll their phones for the same reason they used to channel surf of flip through magazines not really reading anything. Most people, neurotypical or not, do not have the energy or time for hobbies after work, household chores and taking care of their kids/older relatives. It’s not a character flaw, most people would probably love to have the time to take up wood carving or whatever.

im working on not phone scrolling anymore and i realized a root of my behaviour was having to give up on many hobbies my neurodigvergent brain loved in favour of what neurotypicals considered acceptable and phone is my only way to get dopamine. this is why coexisting with neurotypicals is so exhausting they torture us in such tiny ways and since they largely dont have a lick of class conciousness they just peer pressure us into behaviours that help corporations get their profits

its gonna be so bad in like 30 years because nto socializing or having a hobby (one mental and one physical) is the worst thing for dementia

On a somewhat serious note, I am not even using AI, but my job has slowly gotten more boring over the years to the point where I spend my days dying for cognitive stimulation. Office work is a plague on mankind.

My boss finally (indirectly) admitted that she was wrong about something she chewed me out for three years ago.

I hate academia. Time has no meaning. If it was published in the last 20 years, it’s not relevant. Keep that nose to the grindstone.

        • god, flashbacks. i was in Academia for 10 years. learned a lot. met great people. but holy shit, the professional environment was so fucking toxic with some of the worst humanoids.

i loaned a book to a tenured faculty (i thought was a friend) once and like two years later i asked if could get it back and they snapped at me, out of nowhere, that they already returned it a long time ago. i apologized, i looked around for it, never found it and just assumed i lost it somewhere. another year goes by, they put it on my desk without so much as a fucking word.

ive also been in a meeting once where someone screamed at me for doing my job because it made them look out of touch (they were lmao) to external partners. in front of their own boss. and i wasn’t doing it on purpose, which was clear. they had been on HRs radar for bullying junior staff for a year at that point, but never a consequence. they drove half a dozen staff to quit, some to suicidal ideation and counseling. they still work there and are allowed to hire/fire young scientists.

ive met some real assholes in the corporate world, working for small business tyrants, and in public service… but the academy could fabricate some truly entitled and childish monstrosities and let them run their little fiefs however they wanted.

It’s pretty maddening to see how much time and effort gets spent carefully building an environment where the PI never has to admit they’re wrong, even for the pettiest things.

We’ve long divorced our brains from natural, social, enjoyable healthy work that keeps us happy and we have a wide variety of substitutes that we pay for. True that it’ll probably expand even further, though. Rest assured that we will all be poorer.
