A friend just sent me a fucking kursgesagt video about AI scary and they don’t believe me that it’s just AI marketing courtesy of Bill gates
Well they say they believe me but “it sounds wrong” so I wanna follow up with deets
AI with a root shell is dangerous in the same way that a chimpanzee with a loaded AK47 is dangerous. It is a situation which can only arise from deliberate negligence. It is a very different from chimpanzees having the productive capacity to manufacture their own AK47s and waging a protracted gorilla war from the jungle.
gorilla war
Thank you for this I really appreciate it.
I remember playing COD when I was a kid and I was so confused with where the gorillas doing warfare were
“All I did was hook up this computer designed to randomly rotate a gimbal and activate a servo to this AK-47, where are all these bullets coming from?”

But what if we want to know what happens when chimpanzees get their hands on a loaded AK47? How else are we going to protect ourselves from that situation outside of deliberately creating it?

Have you tried Ed Zitron videos? He’s really engaging, knows his stuff, and makes a point to describe something as “looking like a dog’s ass after thanksgiving” at least once a week.

I can never delete this account because it was made on October 7th. The cake emoji was always so obnoxious on reddit and this is the perfect dada response.
i would rather reframe the danger frankly
because it actually is like alarmingly dangerous
just not as some embarrassing skynet concept
redirecting fear and anxiety is easier than being a wet blanket anyway, and if people want to freak out about the danger, the scientific fact that this tech rots our brain is a perfect concept node to redirect that kind of fear monger-marketing towards
Cory Doctorow’s articles, books, talks, etc.
