“CRICKY MATE LOOK AT THIS GIRL AIN’T SHE SOMETHIN’?! AIN’T NATURE AMAZIN’?!”
Imagine if more Australians gave a shit about their unique country instead of just trying to be America JR and bulldozing it all down.
His son Robert is still doing this stuff, and it’s apparently on TikTok. My wife (:borat:) just showed me a clip today of him releasing a juvenile alligator back into the wild; I didn’t really catch the context, but yeah. Similar approach to Steve’s.
good part of my childhood was watching his show and other similar ones in animal planet, i was really sad when he passed away
i remember this news like it was yesterday, affected me more than 9/11

i miss Matt Johnson too
“CRICKY MATE LOOK AT THIS GIRL AIN’T SHE SOMETHIN’?! AIN’T NATURE AMAZIN’?!”
This is actually how I imagine you talk.
OY’VE GOT ME A MASSIVE BIRDEEH THAT POOPS AND PEES LIKE A VEGGIEMITE SOFT SERVE MACHINE, PIGPOOPBALLS RIGHT AT HOME; AND GUISS WOT? THAT’S NOT ALL OYM GONNA DO, I’M GOING TO MAKE SURE EVERY LITTLE BOY AND GURL HAS A LITTLE PISS POOP BURD TO PLAY WEETH
Doxxing myself here, but I spent my life ages 2-18 in New Zealand, so I have a Kiwi accent
Well I have picked up a little Aussie twang after living here for over a decade, but still.
Fush and chups.
I have a love/hate relationship with Australia, love the nature, love the first nations people, love medicare. Hate that most of the people here are destroying that all for the sake of imperialism. The vast majority of Australians don’t even know their own country. Like most Aussies don’t even know anything about our unique edible plants, or our native bee honey or anything. We had giant gumtrees, the last of which was illegally cut down by a development company in the 2010s, nobody knows or cares. We bulldoze our koalas for mulch factorys and rental complexs and nobody cares. They have this whole unique identity we ignore to chase this weird American cowboys and McDonalds shit instead.
New Zealand has the same problem, but at least the Maori have managed to keep a tiny, tiny bit of power and have saved NZ from being a total shitheap US vassel like Aussieland. New Zealand has a bunch of bougie farmers with too much money and power, but juuust enough sovereignty from total 5 eyes bullshit that we haven’t completely ruined everything quite yet.
I too have a love/hate relationship with Australia. It’s pretty bleak but we’ve gotta make it better
(awww nuuu. Awhh neeew. U’m beached az brah)
Aww bro naaah
I never thought of this until now, but he might be a part of why most animals are fairly comfortable with me. He explained his approach and what he was doing to avoid scaring critters whe he was doing it. Intentional body language matters big time with critters cause they cant speak languages. I know I watched him a LOT, that was cause ive always liked animals in the first place but he helped with them liking me more.
Holy crap, I just realised I have the same approach to animals and animals tend to trust me because of it
I just realized he was doing this with a film crew around him too! That is some next level shit there! I gotta look into the behind the scenes cause those camera and mic operators etc must have also had some skill. Wildlife filming fascinates me, at the easiest times you need near infi items patience.
What’s the party line on the Kratt brothers?
i loved zoboomafoo
I must be out of touch, I dunno who they are - _-;
They got limited hangouts with the infamous Zaboomafoo.

They ended up doing a cartoon series that has apparently been running for over 15 years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Kratts
Oh fuck yeah I remember them now
I grew up watching him and he is what got me into wanting to do field biology. Forever missed.
Get into bugs and you can just like… check under a rock for guys. They’re also the secret animals and they do so much cool shit. A lot easier to casually observe for a lil while here and there too. Birds are the next level. I keep an eye on the crows in my neighborhood, some ducks around town, some bugs in the park I go to. Sometimes I look em up and sometimes I just learn on first principle and make little observations as if im the first person to discover a lil critter. Watching animals do stuff and writing notes is super fun! I used to live out in the sticks and knew the roaming patterns of a few groups of deer who came in and out of the woods nearby. You’ll begin to tjink maybe agriculture was a mistake and will go vegan, but just hanging out in one place for days until animals around just decided I was part of thr landscape and went about their business like I wasnt there was super rewarding. And I got a lot of reading done in the meantime.
Holy shit that’s so cool. We miss you Steve
