I’m doing a weird mix of crying because he’s gone and smiling because he was here

Love you dad, thank you so much for being you

It’s been years now for me and it’s so fucking weird because it doesn’t really feel like it happened. I didn’t even have a good relationship. and still get those times where you expect to see him or hear his voice because of routines where he would just always be there in that situation.

    Much love.

I was gonna say “when you’re ready, take some time to do some cool knucklehead shit for ol dad” which is the same imagined interaction, just in reverse :)

Sorry to hear that mate. It was the same when my dad died. It was all extremely sudden and I just felt like an observer, watching myself, waiting for an emotional reaction. It all happened after the funeral, I cried so hard I was literally firing projectile tears out my eyes.

I’m glad you have good memories of him. Hold on to that because they will be a great source of joy.

i started bawling before i even knew for sure it happened… i could tell by my aunt’s crying voice when she asked for my mom on the phone and then my mom’s gasp “he’s dead?” and i was already rolling on the floor crying.

what really pissed me off was all my uncles telling me i had to stop crying and be the man in the house. i wanted to punch them all in their dicks.

only time helps in this type of situation.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I lost mine this January. It took me quite a long time no longer to think “I’ve got to tell him about this” whenever I read something that he would have loved talking about or loved getting mad about.

He had a lot of books and my mom is in the process of finding new homes for them. It feels weird to go into his office to find half-empty shelves and a desk full of sorted piles of books instead of the usual mess of papers. The memory of him is still there but it is fading.

I’m sorry for your loss. Its been about a month for me and I still feel sometimes like it isn’t real and just cry randomly when a thought of him comes in. Best of luck and I’m sorry for your loss.

The best way I’ve found to remember is to do more of the best kindsa things they’d do. Ya know? Make it more of yourself, you didn’t need to before cuz he was there to be that way, but now it’s you who has to. Keep em around in that way, it’s good for everyone.

I’ll also take this opportunity to finally say, I have a dumb sense of humor and you’ve held the title of “best username on this whole stupid website” for quite a while, haha.

Cheers, best wishes, it is rough :(
