Daniel here. I refused to serve in the Gaza war after serving as a reservist for several years. Today I organize war refusers as a member of Yesh Gvul, an Israeli movement that has supported refusers since 1982.

We are currently in the process of organizing a new initiative of group refusal, which you will hear more about once it becomes public. We wrote a new refusal letter opposing the Israeli government’s policies and its destructive use of the military. We have begun circulating it and collecting signatures. We wanted to thank you, donors and supporters of Resistance Solidarity Network around the world, for the support you have given us in the past few months. It means the world to us.

We are currently seeing an increasingly desperate Israeli government doing everything it can to bring reservists back into the army. In recent months, we have received widespread reports of renewed efforts to draft reservists, including those who previously received exemptions or stepped away from military service. We are resisting this new wave. More and more soldiers are questioning whether they can continue participating in the Israeli military’s violence against the Palestinian people, and our task is to support those who choose to refuse. None of us can do this work alone, so I want to thank you for your generous help and support.

Through the hotline of Yesh Gvul that I coordinate, we have been tracking these changes, helping reservists navigate the army’s changing procedures, and supporting dozens of soldiers looking to refuse service in the unjust wars.

We are also trying to build a new generation of organized resistance. A group of us, soldiers-refusers who refused during the recent Gaza war, have joined Yesh Gvul movement, and together we have drafted a new letter opposing the Israeli government’s policies and its destructive use of the military. We have begun circulating it and collecting signatures, with the goal of building a stronger community of reservist refusers who can bring new energy into the movement and create pressure against the occupation and Israel’s policy of endless war.

This work feels increasingly urgent. Military and settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank is intensifying, the destruction of Gaza continues, and Lebanon remains caught in the cycle of war. Meanwhile, militarization and the occupation are becoming increasingly normalized in Israeli society. We need a broad left movement capable of confronting Israel’s ongoing occupation and connecting the struggles against military and settler violence, the destruction of Palestinian life, and the government’s wider policy of death and destruction.

That is what we are building now: a new public soldiers-refusers letter, and a community of resistance. I believe there are many more people in Israel ready to take a stand against the occupation and against endless war than it sometimes appears. Our task is to find one another and organize.

The support you, members of the Resistance Solidarity Network, have given us throughout this period is extremely meaningful. It makes it possible to stand behind people who are taking real risks to resist the Israeli military, the occupation, and the government’s policies. Please support RSN and help make sure that those of us doing this work can keep going.

In solidarity,
Daniel Yahalom

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE TO THIS!

Instead consider Palestinians as the receipients of your money (alternatives at bottom). Edit: This is liberal Zionist bait.

    ^ ^ ^ TLDR ^ ^ ^

Are we paying Israelis now to not kill Palestinians?

No doubt of your goodwill OP. But there are serious “reservations” (to not use the term revulsion). Sidenote: “serve in Gaza” is a heinous euphemism to carry into a title.

Frankly their use of the term “resistance” and “solidarity” I find appalling (edit: apparently the appropriation is intentional).

What is their position on the thawabet? Will they actively fight their fascist state? Or are we to understand “solidarity” as “solidarity with Israelis”?

If they don’t want to have an active part in genocide, apartheid and occupation they can always leave.

It is better when Israel has fewer active duty soldiers. That’s about as much good will as I have about this. And this outcome is not guaranteed from whatever they are allegedly doing.

The only things you are certain to aid if you give money to this are:

    • Israel’s taxes

    • the normalization of this as “resistance” and “solidarity”

    • the material support of settlers on Palestinian land.

    • the normalization of Israel as a state

Abstaining from genocidal murder is not a deed worth mentioning much less heroicizing or donating money to that could go to the actual resistance or suffering Palestinians.

How dare they ask for money for this? IMO that either indicates they have no real understanding of or empathy with the situation of Palestinians (then they would beg you to donate to them instead) or at worst: they are grifting.

Please, if I got it wrong, edicate me.

give to Palestinians, like Adnan’s family:

    Or give to decent organisations:

(I don’t have vast knowledge about everything in the donation space, but these come from sources I trust and I have given money to some of them — happy if you have other suggestions)

Thank you for being a big person🙏

This stuff is super hard, even if a person is clearly well-meaning they may still be working for an org that hurts more than it helps.

Good point. Sure if you want, but could you edit the text instead to add a disclaimer before the quote?

You could remove the link targets for the donations too, to be sure nobody stumbles into it.

I do feel like it has a purpose as documentation of the strategic use of terminology of liberal Zionists. I know I already shared the link (but it doesn’t matter if it turns stale). It could also help if someone were searching for this org.

But as you like :) deletion is easier

The longer you look at it the more disingenuous it becomes (possibly an op or a grift). The language that bugged me in my previous comment is very intentional.

RSN renamed itself one month ago, it was previously called “Refuser Solidarity Network” — descriptive and didn’t aid itself to the misuse below. It’s website still is refuser.org

David uses “resist” in his text 7 times plus 4 times the new name “Resistance Solidarity Network” only once abbreviated (he really wants you to know he is “resisting”)

He really goes all in on appropriating “the resistance”

    …build a new generation of organized resistance…

    …community of resistance…

    …to resist the Israeli military…

    …Support the resistance to Israel’s occupation…

…Our role is to support resistance from within…

All words we want to hear on the left and the pro-Palestine camp. It reads like a text of an organisation that’s part of “the resistance”, supporting Palestinian Liberation when in fact it whitewashes Israeli society (the org wants to make the public aware of the tiny amount of Israelis who say “genocide”) and supports IOF soldiers.

Whether they want to subdue the pro-palestine movement in the west or just ride the “resistance train” to feel better I don’t know. A coincidence seems rather unlikely. You mileage may vary.

Yesh Gvul also supports “selective refusal”, killing from within “Israel”'s borders as internationally recognized is fine for them.

The org seems suspicious to me, but even if it’s earnest it still serves a detrimental liberal Zionist function.

It does kinda say it all.

I thought so too when I was reading “resistance to the Israeli military” — yeah we know who really does that.
