The South Korean government is sending a proposal to its parliament to approve the expansion of the Cheonghae naval unit — an “anti-piracy” naval unit currently deployed in the Red Sea.
The proposal would expand the Cheonghae Unit’s operational area to include waters in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman, very close to the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Iran has previously declared that the Strait and the Gulf of Oman are off-limits to foreign military vessels.
Since the start of the US-israeli war on Iran, Washington has pressured Seoul to join the war. In September, massive protests shook Seoul after word broke that South Korea could send military units into the conflict.
President Lee Jae Myung previously caved to these protests, vowing not to join the war against Iran. However, he left open the possibility to expand the Cheonghae Unit to protect the so-called “freedom of navigation” of South Korean commercial vessels.
This is nothing more than a backdoor attempt to join the imperialist war on Iran by other means. A closer look at the proposal makes this clear.
Seoul seeks to expand the Cheonghae Unit’s military assets, adding a P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, mine-sweeping systems, and 75 South Korean military personnel to the unit, bringing the total to 395. The Cheonghae Unit would operate out of Camp Lemmonier, a US military base in Djibouti.
While Lee’s government currently claims the Cheonghae Unit would not enter the Strait of Hormuz, the presence of mine-sweeping units raises doubts as to whether this is true.
Any attempt to market this idea as a “non-military” mission must be rebuffed. By deploying units close to Iran’s waters during an active, illegal war that has killed thousands of people, Seoul would become a party to the war.
A vote may take place as soon as next week. Stay tuned for updates.

Oops i must have read this headline wrong ai thought it said South Korea sends like a couple dozen of their most brainwashed young chuds to get drone’d/missile’d
Uncle Samsung about to toss their lives away for Epstein.
ROK feeding it’s marine into the minefields of Hormuz might actually lead to reunification no?
ROK sent soldiers to fight in Vietnam and they were very proud of it. So, no, unlikely unless North Korea collapsed first.
Only if the people of the ROK willingly opt for unification, the DPRK wouldn’t risk war with Amerikkka and destroying the progress they have made
Depends on their analysis. DPRK are already participating in the Ukraine war providing defence to Russia, if they decide this is the opening of ww3 they’re not going to sit on their hands and wait for it to come to them. If they see all the ongoing conflicts as one larger conflict that is going to merge together then i do not think they will be passive until something hits them.
South Koreans know how to riot. It’s like their national pastime. I bet they stop this in the streets.
They might if it was actually sending young men to fight. I think it’s just a token force to get the Trump admin off their backs. The president here seems exasperated by the situation with Iran and the USA, especially after they removed the THAAD.
I think the current administration desires to work more closely with China, but is stuck with US military on their shores. However, the average Korean person hates China and Chinese people. The racism is very strong here
They hate China more than Japan? Short memories. Jeesh.
Where was that said?
I wonder if a South Korean riot/protest could force the ROK to accept reunification under the terms of a more moderate leftist state. Idk might just be a pipe dream.
There would have to be a leftist state for there to be a more moderate leftist state and there are none on the Korea peninsula
Their fight for democratic elections in the '80s was called the “Tear Gas Festival” if that gives you an idea of what they’ve accomplished so far.
I checked NATOpedia for it, no result for the name in the search bar. I then put in “protests in South Korea” for a list

Fuck you Wikipedia. I was able to find stuff for it by searching but I sometimes wonder why I fucking bother with that website.
I was looking for a trailer for you and I found the whole damn movie.
