Harris, speaking on Sunday in front of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where state troopers beat US civil rights marchers nearly six decades ago, called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urged Hamas to accept a deal to release hostages in return for a 6-week cessation of hostilities.

“People in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane and our common humanity compels us to act,” Harris said at an event to commemorate the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Alabama.

On Sunday, a Hamas delegation had arrived in Cairo for the latest round of ceasefire talks, billed by many as the final possible hurdle for a truce, but it was unclear if any progress was made. Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth’s online version reported that Israel boycotted the talks after Hamas rejected its demand for a complete list naming hostages who are still alive.

“We saw hungry, desperate people approach aid trucks simply trying to secure food their family after weeks of barely no aid reaching northern Gaza and they were met with gunfire and chaos,” Harris said.

Military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said Israeli troops at the scene initially fired only warning shots, though they later shot at some “looters” who “approached our forces and posed an immediate threat”.

This is like your meth dealer insulting your dental hygiene. Still, it’s better than nothing. The timing of this sudden pivot is interesting and makes me wonder if it’s really about ethics, but whatever gets Palestinians some relief from this nightmare situation is a step forward.

The Michigan primary protest vote has the DNC scared about the general in November, plus the latest of X atrocities that’s actually getting headline print atm - with no end to the crisis in sight.

Biden has the ability to change the reality for starving Gazans but can’t/won’t, however he has sharpened his criticism lately. Stuck between what’s right and keeping AIPAC and affiliated donors on the left side, he’s the ‘bad cop’ atm.

Harris is the ‘good cop’ here in the classic role of Vice President - be seen where the President can’t be seen. She can speak much more freely, because ultimately nobody is going to actually ask her to do anything, but also gets to be a ‘voice within the Administration’ that people can point to.

No one sensible is suggesting that. At best this is to build her credibility and publicity in case Biden dies or becomes too infirm to continue serving.

Absolutely, although isn’t a major job for the VP to handle international affairs, which this definitely is one?

I just wish we had other choices out there. I’ll vote blue and persuade others also because the choice given the voters is bad politics as usual, or insanity. I can vote for Biden/Harris and still hope (with much doubt) for more progressive actions from underneath.

I can’t take any “lefty” seriously who is as adamant as you are about propagating the myth that Dore is a leftist.

He first needs to triangulate the opinions of Alex Jones, trump and Tim pool to get to his perfect right wing populist blend.

He is pretty direct on Palestine-Israel.

If he talks about the Flour Massacre the video should be released in a couple of days, I don’t think they post too quickly on current events.

Most recent video by TJDS on Palestine/Israel is:

Yeah it’s a support stratagem too so it’s a pretty long cooldown but not long enough not to be ready before the end of the mission.

Ceasefire is the first step too peace, but I can also see Israel stop the bombing and stopping all food from coming in

The thing is: Netanyahu has already said he’s gonna enter Rafah, ceasefire or no ceasefire.

Absolutely hilarious because you’re right even though Harris got zero delegates in her primary campaign. No one wanted her in the first place.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

US vice-president Kamala Harris has bluntly called out Israel for not doing enough to ease a “humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza as the Biden administration faces increasing pressure to rein in its close ally while it wages war with Hamas militants.

Harris said Israel must open new border crossings, not impose “unnecessary restrictions” on aid delivery, protect humanitarian personnel and convoys from becoming targets, and work to restore basic services and promote order so that “more food, water and fuel can reach those in need.“

The United States carried out its first airdrop of aid into Gaza on Saturday and Harris is scheduled to meet with Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz on Monday at the White House, where she is expected to deliver a similarly direct message.

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth’s online version reported that Israel boycotted the talks after Hamas rejected its demand for a complete list naming hostages who are still alive.

They must ensure humanitarian personnel, sites and convoys are not targeted, and they must work to restore basic services and promote order in Gaza, so more food, water and fuel can reach those in need.”
