Jag har alltid känt att USA inte kan vara på riktigt, även efter jag åkt dit för att kolla. Om allt i USA är precis som det framställs på tv, om alla man möter där bara spelar roller i nån slags esoteriskt skådespel, om själva marken de står på inte är deras egen, kan man verkligen säga att landet finns? Det osar konspiration i min visserligen väldigt känsliga näsa.

Eller som baudrillard säger:

America is neither dream nor reality. It is a hyperreality It is a hyperreality because it is a Utopia which has behaved from the very beginning as though it were already achieved. Everything here is real and pragmatic, and yet it is all the stuff of dreams too. It may be that the truth of America can only be seen by a European, since he alone will discover here the perfect simulacrum - that of the immanence and material transcription of all values. Disneyland is there to conceal the fact that it is the “real” country, all of “real” America, which is Disneyland (just as prisons are there to conceal the fact that it is the social in its entirety, in its banal omnipresence, which is carceral). Disneyland is presented as imaginary in order to make us believe that the rest is real, when in fact all of Los Angeles and the America surrounding it are no longer real, but of the order of the hyperreal and of simulation.
