NASA is canceling a water-seeking moon rover because of cost overruns and launch delays. The space agency announced the news Wednesday, days before the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
I actually had a dream last night about the ISS being de-orbited.
The only thing we’re doing in space right now that China isn’t is flooding low orbit with disposable satellites that provide overpriced internet whoops nvm. Soon they’ll be the only permanent human presence in space, and soon after that they’ll be putting a nuclear fusion-powered Mars mission together while we’re redirecting all of NASA’s budget to a failing hypersonic missile development program.
I can’t say I understand their move here either. Outside of all the fuckiness of the satellite cloud model, it also just doesn’t work? It can’t really scale up beyond a certain point, and it’s also just future space junk. Why they wouldn’t simply provide actual infrastructure is beyond me.
China’s next step in space isn’t a Mars mission but a permanent moon base. Scouting locations for it is one of the purposes of the the Chang’e missions.
