Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Most people who help others are doing it as a performance
15·1 day agoHere’s a showerthought: everyone complaining about Grimreaper has the option to block them and never see their posts, but they don’t do that because Grimreaper entertains them. Thus proving Grimreaper’s point,
Fucking Thank you!!! LMAO These people could just block me.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Choosing to not to help your friends dying child doesn't make you an asshole
112·2 days agowhen Peter Parker said “I missed the part where that’s my problem”, that was meant to be a bad thing
But it’s not a “bad thing”. Some things are objectively not your problem just because you CAN help someone in need doesn’t mean you HAVE to, and it doesn’t make you a “bad person”.
Let’s be real: most people don’t help others in need even when they are able to. People who donate to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or volunteer with homeless people do so for performative reasons or to just look good in front of someone; in the end, they are doing so for their own self-interest.
you dont understand body language
I do understand body language, which is why I walked away…
If I’m not attracted to a person, I genuinely don’t talk to them or respond to people talking to me.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When upper-class wealthy people don't want to date anyone lower, working, middle class people will claim "classism", but when middle-class or "normal"retail worker or janitor, no one has an issue.
14·2 days agoIf someone is 25 and still working retail its a red flag for me.
I feel like most 25 year old working in retail are doing it while they are in college studying for something (law, med, business whatever)

Off My Chest@lemmy.world•Parents who knowingly send their kid to a place where they get bullied and do nothing about it are at fault and are the worst types of people.English
12·3 days agosuperheroes are terrible because they lie to hide their identity.
I never said superheroes are terrible for hiding their identity. I said I think Clark and Lois from Superman and Lois are self-righteous hypocrites because they lie to protect Clark’s secret, but then they expect honesty from Jonathan and Jordan. If they are ok with lying, then they shouldn’t get mad when Jon and Jordan blatantly lie to their face.

Off My Chest@lemmy.world•Never ever ask out a retail workerEnglish
11·3 days agoIf you go to a Walmart, Target or any store regularly, EVEN if you are acquainted with some of the employees, it’s impossible to ask them out in general. Even if we take romance out of it and just want a friend, it’s damn near impossible.
not one of “those guys.”
“Those guys” are animalistic incels who can’t take no for an answer.

111·4 days agoGood on you for becoming self aware
I’m always self-aware and can read body language, and I don’t take rejection very personally; I just walk away. If I continue going to this Walmart, I’ll wave to her, but I probably won’t speak to her unless she initiates it.
That and I try to talk to women like I would literally anyone else. Granted, I’m obviously more nervous when I talk to a woman I’m attracted to, but I don’t use pickup lines or “play the game”; I usually talk to them like a normal person.
Never ask out someone while they are on the job.
This is what I said.
If you go to a Walmart, Target or any store regularly, EVEN if you are acquainted with some of the employees, it’s impossible to ask them out in general. Even if we take romance out of it and just want a friend, it’s damn near impossible.

72·9 days agothe whole “God is all powerful and all knowing” would mean that he can stop things like children’s cancer but he chooses not to.
God is either not all powerful or not all good.

Ask Men@lemmy.world•Does money and status matter in a relationship?English
17·2 months agoNo, wealth and status doesn’t matter.
Ok, so what do they mean by “bring something to the table”… By this logic, a pizza delivery guy can offer NOTHING to a girl who comes from a multi-millionaire family.

“they previously posted that someone losing their child isn’t a big deal and they should just get over it.”
I said the only loss worth grieving over is the loss of a significant other, but with that said, if you have a child, it’s understandable and reasonable not to want to sacrifice the child you chose to create for the fucking world.

It’s clear you don’t read or watch a lot of Batman. Bruce Wayne does have friends.
Tommy Elliot
Mallory Moxon
Harvey Dent
Silver St Cloud
In the Silver Age comics, Batman did have a supporting cast of characters that wasn’t just Robin and Alfred.

Keep Writing@lemmy.world•Could a superhero story about a young person who comes from a rich family (my character and his family are people of color or mixed race) be interesting?English
32·2 months agoYou do have to explain why not though
Ok, for context, his parents aren’t shitty, unlike Succession. The family is mostly chill. His sisters aren’t mean and bitchy; his dad might be emotionally distant, but he still loves his kids, but his mother loves him more than anything, and he loves his siblings. Even if in the story I put it where they are corrupt or maybe working with one of the villains, the parents still love their kids and want their kids out of danger. Even Darth Vader loved Luke.
I never said his parents were shitty; the guy I was responding to assumed that.
But to answer your question, people have choices. Just because your parents are shitty people doesn’t mean you are going to be a shitty person. Just because your parents are good and loving doesn’t mean you won’t grow up to become an asshole.
There are a bunch of liberals/Democrats whose parents were hardcore conservatives.
People have choices, and just because you have past trauma doesn’t give you a free pass to do horrible shit.

Also, how does this make me a “terrible human”? Because I don’t go out of my way to be friendly, that makes me “terrible”.
