Free speech to the CPC = Freedom for me to spout whatever I want without anyone being able to disagree with me, and freedom for me to shut down your speech when it conflicts with my opinion.
The words free and speech are both in there, just not in the way you’d expect. Thats the beauty of marketing with tribal based double think, it’s meaning to them is different based on who is saying it.
This is normal for the CPC same thing happened in London Ontario during the last election.
If CPC supporters are contacting her saying this isn’t what this party represents, then they haven’t been paying any attention to what their party has been saying over the last decade. Not that it’s surprising at all, the Reform wing of the CPC simply erased what was left of PC influence in the party over the pandemic. Which is how they’ve been trying to market extreme ideas to moderate voters, by just lying to them.
I think that’s the core here, it’s clearly laid out in the judges decision that the problem wasn’t the government using excessive force, it’s that the EA isn’t really meant to deal with this level of incompetence. Its purpose is to deal with real national security threats, and nothing the convoy did was beyond the scope of the local police, they just chose not to act, and the only mechanisms to hold anyone accountable within the police are operated by the police.
Partisanship within Canadian police departments is a serious issue, and while this ruling should be a wake up call, it won’t be heard.
Unfortunately partisan actors will paint the decision as “Trudeau is a tyrant” in conservative media regardless of the reality.
Political actors want to paint this as a failure of the federal government but fact of the matter is, it was a failure of enforcement, and we simply do not have the means in which to hold that enforcement accountable the same way we do the federal government, which is another issue entirely.
We should have high standards for the EA’s use, but the same people who will justify state sponsored violence that targets people they don’t like, are celebrating this ruling as government overreach, because it’s about the narrative not reality, and I find it exhausting.
Police should’ve done their jobs and the federal government shouldn’t have used the act, that’s the real story.

Both nations are currently posturing to attack the EU, from two different sides, and I don’t think thats a coincidence.
I think we’ll find being at war with the US, also means being at war with Russia, because it’s highly probable based on global posturing that they both see the EU as a threat. Specifically the US tech industry is teaming up with the far right, the far right want the EU to be more Christian nationalist, and the tech industry wants a more friendly regulatory environment in this very large consumer market. Russia wants the same thing but the regulatory environment it for Russian gas companies rather than tech companies.

Twitter has always pushed the envelope in the direction MAGA wants to go, I don’t see how this is any different than when they started normalizing disinformation and online harassment.

Deleted my twitter account a decade ago when I commented on a Canada Proud twitter post that resulted in months of non-stop harassment. It’s always been this, they’ve just been turning up the heat year on year, and now people realize it’s boiling.

The UCP in Alberta and the CPC federally, are both so deep in Trumps pocket they’re trading pocket lint and hard mint candies as NFT’s.
The sad part is they try so hard and get no acknowledgment from Trump. Taking control of Venezuela has even created a financial quagmire for the UCP budget. Not that they probably care, they’ll just cut public services to keep the kleptocracy running.
I have the distinct feeling they won’t be calling an early election, if the UCP got what they really wanted, the next Alberta election would be held as an American territory, and the UCP would be running as Republicans.

Something I’ve learned in the last decade, no matter how unpopular a position, MAGA supporters will fall in line with the party rather than risk threatening the parties authority.
It’s good he apologized and realizes the error of his ways, he could work is way back from this one day, but in my eyes, this mistake reeks of laziness and discounts him entirely as a candidate in my eyes.
To be fair, most Canadians don’t have a very good understanding of the history in central and South America. Maybe if we did, more Canadians would recognize the parallels with the Alberta separatist movement.

It’s not a whataboutism, it’s hypocrisy. At no point do I justify the actions of China or Israel, just stating the fact that harping at one while ignoring the other is hypocrisy.

Our government condemning China while supplying support to Israel is just hypocritical, and would hurt our credibility.
Standing on our high horse, but the horse is really dead, we’re dancing on its grave. A good portion of the country refuses to acknowledge what happened to the horse, to the point there is a financial ecosystem that PhD’s can retire into selling horse denialism to angry horse haters.
I think the moral of the story is, governments suck everywhere in their own unique shitty ways.
I suspect it’s because he can get a foot in the door through Alberta, and he has the official opposition in his pocket. If he moves on Canada compared to other countries he’s threatened(?), there are people in positions of power willing to legitimize his actions. I’m not sure if the same can be said about Greenland, Columbia, or Mexico.
