I don’t think this would work consistently, since creative work and inspiration take time and the detection errors might depend on the length of the work. I also think that making some groups of people jump through hoops before they can clear their name, because a generative algorithm said so, is only perpetuating the same problem.

Better would be to judge individual cases based on edit history + timestamps, and judging a tool based on multiple experiments like this. If it fails a few cases, then it should not be used.

Back when such “detectors” first popped up, our university sent out a guide to profs saying that they are unreliable and not to be trusted. We need similar education for more institutions since this isn’t common knowledge yet.

In which case, I agree with the sentiment of the original comment that it should be all of the trump supporting states

It’s worth mentioning something in order to point out why it’s bad? It’s in the news right now and people are currently discussing it, and it’s not like someone is going to read this article and be more likely to go support it

This article is saying that Omarchy isn’t doing anything that novel or special, and that this developer is trying to create a tool that will allow anyone to do the same thing without millions of dollars of funding

As the article noted, it’s more effective if it is targeted.

Hitting them all would create solidarity. Hitting the trump supporting ones will create internal tension.

In this case I think it comes down to branding

• Pop Fest sounds like it’s about pop music
• Soft Drink fest is ok, but it’s a bit clinical
• Soda Fest is clear and short, and most people can still figure out what you’re talking about

That’s my bad for writing it poorly. I meant to say that about the premise of not needing internet, since someone who has internet on both devices might have better ways to transfer the files.

Someone would need to plan ahead and install the PWA (or some compatible tool) in order for this to work

I wouldn’t use this day to day, but what I found cool was:

• it doesn’t require cables or any additional equipment (including routers, cell towers)
• it can’t be detected by anything, assuming you toss a blanket over the transfer

The downside is that if you wanted to get it truly offline, you would need to have the an app installed on both devices ahead of time, if I understood it correctly. (Edit: bolded bits are new)

Disabled people are not your fucking pawns

I didn’t intend for it to sound like that, and reading my comment again I see that I should have expanded on it further. I’m hoping my posting history can show where I stand on issues like this.

What I should have said was that delivery services can be helpful for the elderly or those with disabilities, and that legislation on delivery services can help us improve access to those without the harms of these current robots.

For what it’s worth, we don’t have these robots where I am, so I didn’t know how bad it was. In person, I’ve only seen a few that were sitting around our university plaza last fall. I looked online, and it looks like we don’t currently have any here. I will keep what you’ve mentioned in mind when talking about these bots moving forward, especially if our local politicians are going to be deciding on them in the near future.

Often with these discussions, automation is brought up as a way to bridge the gaps that current public funding can’t fulfill.

I also recently read about how some cities have a thriving bike/scooter sharing program, while others are suffering from mismanagement, excessive prices, and chaos; and how it came down to whether the programs were started as a public project or if they were led by tech companies. So in my earlier comment, I was tying information to this story and saying that regulated and/or publicly managed delivery options might be a better thing to focus energy on
