    …i realise it’s a work of science fiction, but it lost me at eighth ward: that summary reeks of outsiders writing about communities they don’t understand in vicarious performative sympathy…

      Oh, you have no idea!
      If that synopsis bit is all you read of it… I’m not gonna agree that it is a good book like the other user.

      It reeks of performative fan fiction cause it like literally is. It is no worse “white women creaming her pants at her own somewhat problematic dreams” than most of the other books in the YA dystopia category but boy howdy this is rough and the fact that the author was literally a Texas English teacher and writes leftist “journalism” showed hard. It literally quotes better nonfiction books to you.
