Summary

Masked neo-Nazis marched through Columbus, Ohio’s Short North neighborhood on Saturday, displaying swastika flags and making racist and antisemitic statements.

Police are investigating, and no arrests have been reported.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Columbus officials condemned the display, emphasizing that hate and bigotry have no place in the state.

The incident follows a similar demonstration in Michigan last week, where masked protesters displayed Nazi flags outside a performance of The Diary of Anne Frank.

They were molested. The got in a few fights, pepper sprayed some people and then scuttled off to their U-Haul where the cops arrested them.

I hope you are able to stay safe where you are. A lot of New England states prepared for an influx of people needing medical care when roe vs wade was overturned. Some blatantly said they will not cooperate with states like Texas and will not release people’s medical records.

I’m hoping if things escalate they’ll follow that trend and help people get out. There’s been some states like Vermont and Connecticut that have had a decrease in population over the past 10 years so there’s room for more people should it come to that.

That’s good to hear! The UK is probably a lot safer than staying stateside. But if you find job prospects better in New England we welcome you!

The roads are kinda crappy, and we still have some trump supporters, but it’s definitely muted compared to other parts of the country.

I wonder what the amount of Trump gear vs Nazi flags was. It’s also very ironic how when Nazi’s march in the streets without a permit the cops just block off the street with their cars and perform crowd control to “help protect the city” (the Nazis). And when people of color march without a permit because cops killed another person over something stupid they get met with riot gear, tear gas, and rubber bullets.

It’s going to get so much worse before it gets better …

It will depend a lot more on whether or not the fascist dictatorship coming into office in January gives a shit about state charges being out of their legal jurisdiction.

Traitors should’ve been hanged. Their lands should’ve been confiscated and given to newly freed peoples, 40 acres and a mule and all that. Reconstruction failed in large part because the traitorous, racist losers were allowed to go home and start implementing Jim Crow laws instead of being held accountable.

That they and their descendants were allowed to live out their days peacefully pretending their cause was somehow noble and honorable and not just chattel slavery is a crime that persists to this day in the systemic racism throughout our government.

We didn’t hold the Confederates to account. We aren’t holding Donald Trump and his Republican enablers who spread lies about our democracy and took part in the fake electors plot to account. We’re too pussy to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

It’s like that time my old high school had a school shooting and some elected official was all like “no one could have predicted this” and I was like “my brother in Christ, I went to that high school. If no one predicted a mass shooter event then why the fuck weren’t we allowed long coats or backpacks? Why the metal detectors? Was it all for shits and giggles?”

Anyways, elected officials lie and it’s very upsetting to people that expect literal truth. Maybe it’s comforting to some?

Pardon them for what? Unless their possessing firearms wasn’t in line with the law, or that “physical altercation” mentioned that questioning apparently went nowhere reemerges as a thing then I don’t know what they’d need pardoned for based on the article.

The marching with Nazi shit and spewing whatever hateful bullshit is protected speech, because speech protections in the US are extremely broad.

And that’s before getting into whether or not the hypothetical crime is federal (which he could hypothetically pardon) or state (which he can’t).

Yeah, I was in a rush when writing that, and should have been more thorough in explaining what I meant.

I meant that’s their mentality: these idiots will become increasingly emboldened as Trump takes over, and make the assumption that they can do anything they want because Trump & the Republicans have taken over the Justice system and will allow them to do whatever they want to the “evil libs.” There will be no hate crimes prosecuted (unless against white and/or prominent right-wingers) - at least not on a federal level, but these idiots often don’t really understand that difference (and TBF there effectively may not BE a difference in red states).

I think it’s incorrect to link all the January 6th protestors with actual Neo-Nazis and that sort of hyperbole was part of the reason Democrats were out of touch with how regular people felt. Neo-Nazis are partly increasing because of the memification of racism, giving racism a more viral quality, combined with how fast society is changing and people incorrectly making sense of it through racism.
