I’ve seen @thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net post about it but I put it off. So I picked it up today and it’s good folks. Bruce Wayne as a working class dude who makes his own tech is a nice fresh spin on it. Plus he’s an absolute beast of a man, so that’s bonus points if you like hunky dudes catgirl-salute

p good imo, at the time I read it I’d only read all of Absolute: batman, MM and some of flash and SM and just started WW at the time so I didn’t know every villain tbh but not too hard to infer anything I didn’t entirely know, but I liked how their essentially portraying the logic of irl elites/capitalists and the

The GA death(representing the death of lib left idealism maybe) And the

          ‘Justice league’

          reveals were good

Maybe worth reading all or at least most of what’s been released from the other series before reading it, but take this with a grain of salt but I don’t think it’ll spoil much if you haven’t

Yeah originally I was unsure if they we’re even all in the same canon, e.g. in Superman you have Lazarus being the huge global power even inside the US but in batman they aren’t mentioned once, but on further reading they are mentioned in flash and briefly in WW

But yeah the series are all pretty independent which is a good thing, I don’t want to get the constant crossover madness you get in mainline canon, although

          spoiler

WW has shown up in BM

so hopefully that and this doesn’t presage the Absolute series’s going to far in that direction

Ya, I tend to read them a couple months at a time so I guess I’m not entirely on top of things. I did notice a couple references here and there, but I chalked it up to coincidence because the style and worldbuilding felt markedly different than each other. No question of it with these past few chapters though. Not sure how I feel about it.

Edit: it feels tacked on tbh.

Edit: it feels tacked on tbh.

I don’t disagree, I think it just mainly to set up further appearance of characters from each in eachother

              spoiler

Without having to do a a few pages of 'how does Ra’s know Joker’s each time

I’m guessing the JL villains from each will show up in the various series, which will probably lead to more crossover teamups(ugh) between the mains

But still it’s not the worst comic I’ve ever read, and even if it’s seems pretty contrite to everyone here it’s message of eltes despite having internal revival and outward disagreement with eachother will always put their class interest first and collaborate to crush working class resistance which is a better message to put out than not by gompano s with cultural cache, especially among the youth, even if it is ultimately hypocritical

Oh ya, not to call Absolute Evil out, it’s interesting enough. I meant tacked on to the Absolute series in general. They just felt very distinctly established imo. They don’t even feel like the same time period, to me. But yeah, not horrible or anything. I just feel meh about it.

It is really good. Especially since it’s essentially a 2020s take on the 90s EXTREME comics, but in a good way. It’s so over the top and incredibly ludicrous in its look and feel, but pulls it off exceptionally well without it becoming too cringey or edgy. I enjoy that Bruce is working-class, and is an incredibly gifted engineer which makes for some awesome things that Batman can orchestrate and do. For my money Absolute Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter are still the best Absolute books, but Batman and Superman aren’t too far behind.

Haven’t had a chance to read the new issue but they’re introducing Poison Ivy. I hope they do something interesting with that character. It has such wasted potential as a eco-terrorist revolutionary.

DAMN, I kind of didn’t believe the hype, but FUCK DO I LOVE THIS!! I decided to just give a go randomly today and ended up reading every issue of Absolute Batman back to back, this shit slaps hard! I never read many comics in my live, specially hero ones other than a few here in there, but I absolutely loved this one, I can’t wait for the next issue and now I want to read all the other Absolute comics, I heard nothing about the Superman one, but I have heard that both the Martian Manhunter (my absolute goat on the old Justice League animation) and Wonder Woman are pretty good, and seeing she has a big fucking sword, I’m even more excited to read it.

    [Spoiler] Plot points

Some of the inversions and twists of established things off usual Batman stories are pretty great, I did not expect for Bruce to be childhood friends with Catwoman, Killer Croc, Penguin, Riddler and Two-Face, not only that but I actually like them a lot, I got really sad seeing what Bane did to them, they didn’t desert that at all.

Speaking of Bane, this mf really betrayed the revolution on the first chance he got, and what that got him? He lived a life dedicated to being Joker’s dog in exchange for the prosperity of his country and now he’s a bunch of organs together in a tube watching his country, wife and kid get bombed to shreds.

And wow Joker is fucking terrifying in this story, a billionaire/trillionaire that’s probably immortal and is a literal shapeshifting monster that uses children’s bodies and cells to live forever, what the fuck.

Also I obviously really liked the extra issue where Batman beats the ever living shit out of those fascists. My only complaint would be that the end is a bit ambiguous, where I didn’t get if he feels bad because he misses his father or because he beat them, I hope the intent was that he simply misses his father because he was more than right to beat those fuckers.

Update from my last comment here: I now have also read Absolute Wonder Woman and that also slaps! I never really knew much about WW, but this version of her is soooooo cooooool, and she’s just the most likeable person to ever exist. She’s ultra-confident but also extremely respecting, she’s so endearing you just want to keep reading because of her alone. I think I like Absolute Batman a little bit better, but it’s mostly because I feel like a lot more stuff happened there than in this one in a similar number of issues, but both are really close. Also the Annual 2026 is amazing, it’s super sweet and leans so much into what makes this WW feels so cool, and the artwork on that is really good to, even tho I absolutely love the art style of the first few issues more.

Next I’ll read Absolute Martian Manhunter, but I can’t wait to read all the other ones too, specially the Flash one, there was a preview in one of the WW issues I think, and it looked interesting.
