Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician who is the co-founder, lead vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the Cure, a post-punk band formed in 1976. His guitar-playing style (including his use of the Fender Bass VI), distinctive singing voice, and fashion sense (often sporting a pale complexion, smeared red lipstick, black eye-liner, unkempt wiry black hair, and all-black clothes) were highly influential on the goth subculture that rose to prominence in the 1980s.

    Ehhh, gotta go with fascination street, like a basic bitch, maybe pictures of you.

    Can’t lie, disintegration is their peak album for me, though they have some great songs on all the others.

    I can’t keep it down to just one I’m going to say a forest, why can’t I be you, burn.

    I learned recently that he was a guitarist with Siouxie and the Banshees for a while. Rather awesome.

    Separately, I’ve never really been a fan of Bauhaus, but I discovered recently that Love and Rockets is basically three of the four of them. One of my favorite bands. And Peter Murphy was Bauhaus’ lead singer. I didn’t know that until like this year. I’m pathetic.

    The first Cure song that really grabbed me was Watching Me Fall, it was on a trailer for the new Alone in the Dark game at the time of all things. Then I had to google the lyrics years later, got a hold of Bloodflowers and then Disintegration and Pornography and my transition to angsty Goth teen was complete.

    I slept on that band for so long, now they are one of my favourite OAT. I would go with Hanging Garden as my favourite from them. Honorable mentions to Disintegration, A Strange Day, From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea and Fascination Street.

    I have been a fan for almost 35 years. Picking one favourite is difficult, as that would depend on my mood. ‘Prayers for Rain’ or ‘Fight’ are currently my top 2.
