Coal-burning power plants released more mercury last year, according to an analysis by The Times. It reverses a downward trend of emissions of a metal that interferes with brain development.

Burning coal also releases radiation, because of traces of radioactive elements. This exceeds radiation emitted by nuclear plants for equivalent power output.

    Drill, baby, drill!
Nothing better than a healthy dose of prehistoric heavy metals and climate active trace gases!
And if you omit the costly filters, sulphuric acid from the rain might even corrode some those nasty windmills and photovoltaics!

The [Trump] administration has encouraged the burning of more coal, which emits more carbon dioxide and other pollutants than other fossil fuels, while also blocking tighter pollution controls on coal-burning plants that were supposed to take effect by 2027. It has directed the Pentagon to buy more coal-powered electricity and reopened millions of acres of federal land to mining while working to stymie nonpolluting energy, like wind and solar power.

It also ordered some coal-burning power plants to scrap their plans to close, compelling them to remain open instead.

This is what you voted for protest-non-voters.

Santa didn’t bring me everything on my list, so the only thing I could do was burn down my house. Don’t blame me, blame Santa.

Then how does China opening 50+ new coal power plants last year alone factor in? I’m guessing a lot more since they currently have four times as many as the US. Also the US hasn’t actually opened a new plant since 2018. So I’m sure burning more coal from the US is a drop in the bucket.

When it comes to CO2 emissions, China is, of course, the biggest, but US is significant.
