There is a type of person who appears to be a liberal to our perspective. I think of a specific Type, the sort that’s kinda plugged into the beltway. Sometimes like, a natsec bureaucrat type, you know? Not always, but I’ve noticed a lot of these “I miss how competent George W. was” liberals often have connections to these institutions that used to legitimize or execute power in a way the fascists have more or less looked at and found wanting.
They’re themselves probably pretty okay with fascism, probably actually are a fascist, but votes for democrats and believes in civility politics, as a pragmatic decision. They intrinsically understand how essential the illusion of democracy was to The Big Show in a way I think the fascists genuinely don’t understand, or are for their own reasons specifically trying to tear down, and this type finds that horrifying. Again because they know the basic pillars of a scam like the United States and they know that even a dumb working class will start to become ungovernable if these people fuck around too much.
They’re invested in the system as it was. They need Business As Usual for lots of reasons, but their bread and butter is being specifically fucked with and strangled in a way I don’t think they imagined was even possible.
So those folks are having a meltdown right now.
I just find it really funny, because George W Bush was like one of a succession of fascists who were basically clearing the forest so the data center could be built. They miss the days when the Managed Decline didn’t actually affect them. They see themselves as part of an apparatus that has been betrayed by these folks when it’s like… you REALLY didn’t realize that you were playing musical chairs and that you might find yourself unseated, did you?
It’s like when 90’s nostalgia gets brought up. I can’t help but remember the absolute cluster fuck and pure evil that was the post Soviet block. Those where bad times!

I remember seeing an article somewhere that noted Fox News has started to become treated as more middle of the road due to it not literally always stating exactly what Trump wants, so liberals watch and rate it more centrist

Trump is a totally average US president. Everything that is happening now would have happened under Kamala. We will eventually have to deal with anyone like Jamie up there incapable of doing enough material analysis to realize this fact.
I don’t think Trump is your average president. He does more or less the same stuff as others, but brazenly and openly, which further encourages other bigots to do awful bigoted shit. He also does some straight up insane shit like the tariffs thing (remember that?) and is the first president in a while to be openly anti-science. That stuff will fuck up the US empire real bad in the next couple of decades.
Kamala would probably be doing less evil shit domestically.

The trouble is that, while yes domestic policy obviously matters as far as our day to day lives are concerned, in analytical terms it’s kind of irrelevant. Foreign policy is all that actually matters. We are many steps removed from making any real improivements with domestic policy because the apparatus of super state power, which projects dominance and control over other countries, is the real source of the power of the ruling class here at home. Domestic power in the imperialist state is based in the enslavement of other countries for the domestic’s benefit. You can be the most far left politician in every other concievable way, and advocate for free healthcare and worker co ops and hunting down everyone with more than three reál in their pocket in the streets or whatever, but you’re not an enemy of the hegemony if you’re falling in line when it comes to foreign policy. Now once that real source of the ruling class’s power in the form of foreign imperialism is dried up, you can then be free to do whatever you want when it comes to domestic policy and make meaningful change. But you don’t have that liberty as long as the imperialist state machine continues to exist.
Obviously not claiming that Kamala would have been any of those things. Just in these terms it doesn’t do much good to think of how she would have been less evil domestically if the foreign policy would have been just as wicked.
