“If we sit back and do nothing, people will wonder why we sat back and did nothing,” Moore said. “This is a step that I feel like we needed to take for public safety.”

This sounds about what I would expect from a city councillor. Maybe actually a little more candid than usual about their total lack of knowledge concerning the issues facing/surrounding e-bike cyclists.

I’ve said this time and time again to my local representatives that they should have bike to work days to give them an honest perspective of where the issues really lie within their districts and the city as a whole.

This constitutes more pieces of legislation that target ebikes when the symptoms clearly point to a problem with e-motos: 60 MPH (100 kph) riders and torn up grass are not the domain of any ebike anywhere in the USA.

But we can also file this under victim blaming:

In Arnold, an ordinance proposed last month — which mirrors state roadway laws — prohibits e-bike use on some city-owned property. It was in response to the community’s and local government’s safety concerns, especially after a man riding an e-bike last year was hit by a vehicle, said Arnold City Councilman Aaron Moore.

So a motorist crashes into a bicyclist (whether ebike, e-moto, or whatever) and it’s somehow the latter that garners regulation?

I don’t follow this subject at all, just passing through.

Even I know this probably isn’t about safety, or at least not only about safety.

They always put forth the community service aspect of new laws to sell them, but the real agenda is somehow keeping the rich and powerful protected.
