In this thread you can share what new coffee, equipment, techniques etc. you have tried this week.
What have you enjoyed and what didn’t you like? Have you learned anything new?
Ordered these two for the next go-around (Philz’ Julie’s Splendor and Dancing Water). Trying some lighter roasts lately as the drip maker I got can make brew them a lot better than I do (I’m still a little heavy-handed — why get a light roast when you’re not going to taste it properly?). I appreciate Philz doing a full 16oz pound still.

Have plumbing working again, so I made a pour over. It’s been like 2 months of freeze dried illy coffee (been living in a construction zone).
49th parallel, basic funnel with filter, a bit of oat milk. Tasted great!
Been using the French press near daily now, saves a ton of counter space. One thing I’ve noticed after refrigerating the leftovers is a bit of dark goop at the bottom of the jar; I assumed it to be like the crap that gets filtered out by the paper filter, or rather the stuff that made it past.
French Press coffee tends to have a bit more coffee grounds in it than other methods, so this might be the case for you as well.
There are different kinds of french press plungers that mitigate this. Some people also put a paper filter on their plunger to remove more of the grounds.
I rarely drink french press but I love my aeropress, which also removes all the grounds.
Oh is that what that is? I thought it might have been like, idk concentrated cholesterol or some shit. I do the same, putting a paper filter on the French Press, but there’s usually a bit of coffee at the bottom that didn’t get filtered properly so when I pour out the remaining batch for later use I think some of it gets in.
Sounds most logical to me at least
